Custom Simrak in American black walnut.

Base height has been specified to accommodate a Musicworks mains block underneath. Left hand rack size is custom to fit a Vertere turntable. Right hand rack is custom and with 4 specially positioned legs to support the weight and feet positions of the amplifier stack.

Once all the smoked glass shelves arrived (originally supplied with a couple of interim clear glass shelves until the smoked glass came in stock) and the walls were repainted, it all ended up like this:

Looks great - the more I see the Simrak, the more I like it. That American black walnut is very attractive. Good idea regarding the music block too - I could ask Simon for sufficient height to accommodate my Chord S6.

I very much do miss the convenience of the Isoblue sliding shelves. So much more easy and stable to move the heavy boxes without threat of unwelcome incident.

I don’t know why so many rack and plinth makers have to have conspicuous logos on the top of front. My sideboard doesn’t have a massive “IKEA” embossed on it. Nor does my desk have an “Office Depot” badge on the edge. An obvious logo on a rack or plinth ruins it for me.

I never attached the Naim logo to the front of my Fraim. However, I don’t mind the logos on HRS racks and bases. They are nicely done and understated. Not so in-your-face like some logos. Now I wish I had a second HRS rack in place of my Fraim.

I auditioned the Isoblue against the Hutter and Quadraspire racks some years ago when looking for new support units.

They had the advantage of looking like an attractive piece of furniture rather than something that was run up in woodwork class or like a multilevel hostess trolley without wheels.

Helped the equipment sound better as well, of course.

Hallo, Years ago, I bought two used Hutter pieces at a good price. Luckily, I was able to purchase a third custom-made piece from Hutter. I also added 10mm dark glass panels, placed on three spikes.
All in cherry wood. In any case, I’m happy with it. It looks good and serves its purpose.

All in cherry wood. I’m happy with it. It looks good and serves its purpose.

If you’re having trouble finding the right size, look or price of a rack, have a look at Solid Sounds racks, they’re based in the UK and you’ll find them via a browser search. They will build to your specification and are quite reasonably priced.

Always liked those, the Hutter Racktime

This is my custom rack. Canadian maple 2" platforms done by Timbernation in Pennsylvania.

1 1/4 thick pure brass rods for legs, stackable design. I had multiple sets of the brass legs made at different lengths to accommodate future taller (or shorter) power amps.
