New Naim Internet Radio - Feedback & Requests - Part 3

A repeat of the opening post from Part 1:

At Naim, we understand that while many people use our products to get the best listening experience from their own music collection; sometimes you simply want to put the radio on and let someone else choose. We’ve offered a comprehensive internet radio solution for some time, and we are now delighted to announce the launch of our own in-house internet radio solution.

In a collaboration between XPeri and our team here at Naim, we have brought the internet radio server in-house to be maintained internally, as opposed to relying on a third party as with the previous server. This will improve reliability and has opened up a host of improvements to the service, detailed below:

- A selection of over 45,000 stations worldwide
- Advanced metadata feeds for artist, track and album info on many stations
- Focus on high-quality audio streams
- Improved station categorisation
- High-resolution station artwork
- Automated station scanning
- Station podcasts (where available)

The Focal & Naim app will identify any favourites and presets that should be resaved to use the new server.

These updates are not only improving the internet radio server but improving our streaming capabilities too. TIDAL’s new 24-bit, 192 kHz streaming tier, TIDAL Max, is now available through both the Focal & Naim app and TIDAL Connect.

In a significant update for our Chinese customers, Q-Play is now supported in Naim products. QQ Music is one of the largest music streaming services in China, and users are now able to select their Naim streamer from within the QQ Music app for a seamless listening experience.

Regards,
Naim Audio – Software team

With the launch of Naim’s new Internet Radio service (see above), I’ve created this dedicated thread where information can be posted relating to the service and members can post feedback and requests for the team at HQ.

Examples of how this thread can be used;

  • Announcements on key new stations / station rebrands etc. For example recently a big change in UK for Bauer Media and Global. Scala radio rebrands to Magic Classical and about 16 other new or existing stations changing.
  • request stations that we don’t have.
  • issues with a station. Eg, wrong meta / won’t play and so on.
  • notifications of any downtime on either our system in a given region, or a dependent system like the xperi live radio meta.
  • Search issues. We have the station but its hard to find as needs more tags.
  • feature requests / feedback / general radio gossip

Please ensure posts here are ONLY feedback re. the new Naim radio service. Thanks.

The latest December update can be read here:

Hi @Richard.Dane,

I have lost my favourite station recently 101 ru techno. I have to listen via bluetooth on ND555 which is poorer quality. Can this station be added. It is based in Russia. It dropped off recently, maybe a week ago! I couldn’t understand why.

Thanks,
Dan

Hi @Dan_M

Should now be back:

I am seriously happy with the new internet radio service. Discovered yesterday that all Dutch NPO streams are now available in 320 kbps with improved stability. Very much appreciated.

I have one issue with a PureClassix HD stream. This stream has weird volume fluctuations. Sounds like volume normalization that happens while a track is playing. Strange effect and a bit annoying, but this is probably an issue in the source stream.

Looking forward to the update for the Naim Internet Radio on my NDS.
As soon as you have something to test, in 2025, will be glad to do so.

All the best, and a very Happy Streaming Christmas to all.

Hello,@Richard.Dane

After the new firmware upgrade, can Qplay be used with green screen NDX?

Thanks!

that’s a question that @Stevesky might well be able to answer.

Hi @Zerniker

QPlay - no. On the upcoming update we are just doing a service release switch to the new radio service + soak up a few bugs / moving target compatibility issues.

QPlay for QQMusic is now in all the newer products from 2018 onwards (uniti Atoms, Muso2, NDX2, New Classic series etc).

New station Superstereo 3+ (Chile) was advertised as being available from 1 December, on one of their existing stations.

Could this please be added to the Naim app Hidef folder ?

Hi @Dugby

Sure. Now added. A dedicated 3+ logo could not be found so currently using the ‘3’ one.

Hi @whatu1tme2b

Have reviewed the PureClassix stream and we are linking to the correct stream ( http://mscp4.live-streams.nl:8140/flac.ogg ) so there is nothing much we can do regarding the audio issues as its the station broadcasting that.

I’m new to this, so not sure if there is an advantage to having a station added by Naim, rather than just using the “add your own station” feature? Anyway, I found this station for adding, if there is any benefit in doing that?

I must say, the range of stations in the app is amazing - you have done a great job with this.

Hi @Mike_S

Enjoy the 8min guitar solos

On Live365, LautFM and ZenoFM, although we could automate the addition of these stations like other radio directories, as there is a vast amount of junk in these “make your own stations”, we prefer that we add ones that have been requested by customers, rather than clog the directory down with 1000’s of people messing around creating their own radio station that never gets new content, or worse, trojan horse stations where they claim to be a commercial stations but are not. Need to keep the quality vs quantity ratio right of the system.

In the case of ProgRock247 they show promise as they have setup a webpage + facebook.

Best wishes

Steve

Is there a howto, to implement jazz groove premium membership ?
On their website they still refer to vtuner!

Thanx,

Hello! Would be grateful if you could take a look at two of my favorite stations:

KEXP 90.3 FM in Seattle has a new 160K (AAC-LC) stream (64k was all they had before), so I hope you might switch over that: kexp (dot) streamguys1 (dot) com/kexp160 (dot) aac

KNCE 93.5 in Taos, NM USA stopped streaming from your menu a year or two ago, so that’s my other request; truetaosradio (dot) com

Thanks for taking a look!

Hi @Bradd

KEXP - thanks for the tip. upgraded and now available.

KNCE - assuming we are talking the new internet radio system then it is working. Here is its entry:

Thanks for looking into that Steve. KNCE still indicating “can’t play. Station unavailable”. KEXP is functional but shows and sounds like it’s still at 64k. User error over here maybe?

Hi Bradd,

Sounds like you are still on the old vtuner system.

Can you let me know the product being used and software version installed.

The home menu should look something like this:
