Re: Radio Paradise and AAC feeds in Europe

They got back to me to say that they have been experiencing issues, but hopefully now fixed.

Lets see…

Hi @Stevesky - last few days I’ve been unable to stream CBC Radio News -Hourly (Canada).

This morning, after failing to connect, a bizarre thing happened in the app: the station logo in “Presets” changed to the one for a different preset. The “Now Playing” logo in app (and on screen) remained with the correct logo (exploding C in red and white). On screen of 222, it shows the logo and “connecting” briefly, then “stopped”… then, pressing the “play” icon on Now Playing, the next preset icon (or possibly the last successfully played station, in this case they were the same) shows and (this last time I tried) connects and starts playing.

Any help appreciated! Thanks

Hi @Alan33

I’ve got a feeling CBC have discontinued this broadcast. We’ve has it in review state for a few days now as down, but we can’t find any new url or reference to it in CBC’s system.

If you know of any location Iwebsite/app/whatever) that has it working let us know.

Regards

Steve

Thanks @Stevesky , it’s a weird one because they seem to be pushing the podcast version of the same feed, entitled “The World This Hour”. It works here (via Safari in iPhone, I didn’t download the app):

https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-9-cbc-news-the-world-this-hour

No idea if podcast and iRadio are compatible, although I do see lots of CBC podcasts under “CBC->Radio One-> Poscasts” … but not “The World This Hour”

Thanks for such a quick response, amazing as always!!

That podcast is on the Audials app (excellent radio app) with casting to chromecast enabled devices.

Hi @alan33
We have this as a podcast here under CBC Radio 1 → Podcasts:

However, the other stream I think was a bit different and more a live looping news update.

My error @stevesky, I just didn’t spot it in the list!

Yes, the podcast is the same hourly news loop as the (old?) station, but with an ad for other CBC content at the beginning - no idea why they would stop the normal radio broadcast, fingers crossed it comes back in another few days!

I’ve just played the latest news successfully using the podcast link. (No logo though, just the generic streaming icon on 222 screen.) I will try saving it as a preset and learn whether it always plays the same episode, or if it updates automatically to the current version.

Thanks again for the follow up and keeping an eye open for the “real channel” feed to correct itself.

Hi @alan33

I had feedback from CBC that the dedicated hourly news feed has been discontinued, but the podcast equiv should be used.

We’ve deleted the old feed from the system.

Hi @Stevesky -

Well that’s super disappointing but well done you to get a confirmation reply.

I tried to “favorite” the podcast, but that seems to save the exact episode playing, not the generic “play the latest episode” link that they have in the CBC player website. Is it possible for me to save the generic link, the same one I get to by navigating the search tree? For example, save it from the “Podcasts” page rather than from the “Now Playing” screen?

I’m not sure I’ve described that well… but the “Podcasts” link plays the latest one, but if I play then save it, it saves the current episode.

Edit to add: I think in general, saving a Podcast might want to give you the most recent episode. Perhaps it somehow works this way but I couldn’t see how. I’m not at home this week to retrace my steps, so forgive me if I’ve made yet another error about the podcasts page!!
