After over 20 years using my old Narcom 2/3 (?) with my 252, I began to realize just how cheap looking this remote is. So I ordered a Narcom 5 to update the look of the coffee table! It arrived today (VERY difficult to obtain in the US) and I am extremely please with the look and feel of the new remote. Yes, it’s still plastic but it’s solid and heavy (at first I mistook it for aluminum).
Here’s looking forward to another 20+ years with my Narcom 5/252 (if I last that long)!
Nice as the R-Com is, I keep mine in the original box. It is missing functions the Narcoms have, and, if I dropped an R-Com to the floorboards, I would not want to be tempted to offer/risk my tender foot to save it the way I would for a Narcom.
After posting earlier, I wasn’t actually sure if the R-Com was still offered….I always thought it use to come bundled with the 552, but looking at the current website there’s no mention in the included items…then again, all the 552 images are still green LED, so what use is the website….
That’s quite some price for a remote….bit of a pi*s take to be honest….!
I wouldn’t worry about it. Both the R-Com and Narcom 5 are supplied with the 552. The Narcom 5 is by far the better of the two. I don’t think Naim Audio has ever supplied a better remote.
I have this one, the ND555 remote. The standard Uniti remote is horrid, but although this one is the same shape and size, the metal case makes it so much nicer.
Top marks to Linn for the indispensable OPEN button (so keeping my grubby fingers off the player) but the Naim remote seems to edge it in terms of PR&T (press response and tactility).
