New Narcom 5 - quite impressed

I liked the 4 best, the volume and mute are nice and easy to find. Presumably it was replaced when CD went out of fashion but who needs a remote for a streamer when there’s the app.

I’m always dropping the plastic remotes and that, presumably, is what killed my 4, it also makes the 5 try to come apart at the seems and need pressing together, the R com stays where I put it, even in my hand, presumably thanks to its weight.

I’ll vote for the 4 as well. I came with my 2011 282. I tried a 5 with my cd5si, but I just kept to the 4. Changing the batteries always catches me out though.

I really liked that one on the right, but I reckon the Narcom 5 is probably as good. Worst of all the Naim remotes IMO was the Flash, closely followed by that supplied with the ND555.

I love the Flash but best is probably the Narcom 5. It just feels right.

I have always prefered the Narcom 4 but I also have a Narcom 3 that came with my old CD5.

The Narcom 4 (or “stealth” as the style was called) was fine but the battery door was not the best. Louby decided to chew it off mine and I have never found it, so sadly I now have a Narcom 4 that’s unusable as the battery door also houses the contacts.

My least favourite was the late Narcom 3 - one that was a hasty substitute for the old-style Narcom 2/3 that suddenly ceased manufacture by the supplier.

This image posted up by @Dan_M shows the Narcom 5, late Narcom 3, and Narcom 2 side by side;

I agree the Narcom 4 battery door is a bit odd an example of something far more complicated/overworked as a solution for what it is but I just like its feel in the hand and use. The Narcom 5 is fine too but it does not feel so nice in the hand being more squared off.

This is a Narcom 5 these came with my Supernait 3 and my CD5si.
Nicest hi fi remote I’ve had yet. :+1:t2:

I didn’t know the ND555 came with this…as you say, same as the standard Uniti but in a nice brushed metal….

Are these available separately…?

Yes, you can buy them.

About £500 i think. Ask your dealer. Hopefully the button feel is better than the one that came with my ndx2.

That is what I am using on my CDX2 , all for under a tenner - funny thing is that my CDx2 sounds just the same as with the Naim remote

£500? I was told £800 by my dealer. It may be wrong though. Either way, you’d best get saving.

Jesus….They can whistle. Should be gold plated at those quotes….

I always thought B&O made some of the nicest remotes…I remember the one I had for the last CRT TV I owned (think it was the mx4000 or something, the one that had the great motorised wall bracket)…Remote was really nice, glass screen that floated at the end….
Premium remote feel…Supplied standard…and not £500-800 to replace….

My favourite was the Narcom 3. How it holds in the hand and ilts look.

Which version? The one that looked like the Narcom 2 (except grey) or the late one that was around briefly as shown in the picture above?

Don’t worry about the ND555 remote. It’s pretty useless. All the functions you need apart from Standby are on the app.
