It’s probably a little bit less than I originally estimated. Should be good for at least 1000hrs or more if they are fussy as me in keeping my records and stylus spotless at all times. Merry Christmas.
I received today this picture of my P3 being at Music For Life fitting a new ND7. At the same time they have the Sondek to be upgraded with a Krystal, actually my intention was to get rid of the latter but they insisted so much. I’m curious to see which one i’ ll prefer, i don’t think it’s so obvious😉
Please keep us informed.
When I had the P3 with ND5, I wanted to try the ND7 because I was not satisfied with the sound, very little difference… the ND7 delivers its potential from the P6 and is remarkable on the P8.
The ND5 is enough on the P3, it’s not for nothing that REGA only offers the ND7 with the P6 or P8.
But well, we say “who can do more can do less”!
I love my P3RS which has the ND5 and it might be my last TT ( I’m getting old). If I do get a second wind it would be the P8/ND9. P6 is better than my current TT ( I auditioned both extensively but price is a factor). I haven’t actually listened to a P8 but I would take my TT to my dealer and insist on many hours of P8 Vs P3 listening. It’s not cut and dried. My wife paid for my TT from her retirement fund. She correctly said the RS is better looking than the P6. She also said that the P8 was fugly. I didn’t like the skeletal plinth either but it’s grown on me. That lid will never grow on me. It’s part of the human condition to want more but I have listening sessions that last hours so that tells me what I have is working. I fix up old Duals for fun. Kid myself I’ve made a profit because I sold it for more than I paid for it. Factor in my man hours and it’s a bust but I enjoy keeping them alive. Rega P1 is better but not by that much. If I won the lottery I’d get a NAIA. If my circumstances went downhill I’d sell my P3RS and fix up a Dual. Important thing is I would be listening to my vinyl.
A P3 is a fine turntable indeed. I went from a P6 to my present P8. I have just been upgrading the MM cartridges over the years to try and max out the performance/musicality running thru my Supernait 3 phono. I always try & max out every bit of performance of my present system, before thinking about a major component upgrade. This usually takes many, many years of slowly tinkering away ( cables, supports, power supply & earthing etc ). I’m hoping the Nd9 on order will be the reference standard MM for the P8/Supernait 3 built in phono. My next step will most likely be my speakers as they are over 30 years old. Have a great New Year playing record’s.
Please keep us posted. The P8/ND9 I’m sure will be a winning combo. I hope to audition this or the P8/ND7 in the new year..
P8/ND7 is superb! I always want to buy vinyl records, which is a good sign! (or not…

Just arrived today Rega Nd9 Ref MM. hopefully will get time to fit it on the P8 before the weekend. Christmas present from to me.
Hurry up! I’m dying to read about it. LOL. Just kidding take your time installing it.
I just played Beautiful Vision by Van Morrison using an Nd7 on a P8 through a Supernait 3’s built-in phono stage. Then, I swapped out the Nd7 for the new Nd9.
Straight out of the box, the Nd9 made me literally sit up straight away, thinking the volume had been turned up. It hadn’t—it was in exactly the same position as before with the Nd7. I just wasn’t expecting so much more detail. The sound stage was a lot more spacious, with a greater, real presence of all the singers and instruments.
I’m sure it’s going to change through the running-in period, but the Nd9 is a very impressive cartridge.
The sound is more detailed but not more analytical? So for you and your first try, the additional cost of the ND9 is justified? You should listen to the ND9 for about 50h then put back the ND7…
The Boron cantilever strikes me as real high end audio engineering, so I am delighted that Rega have been able to provide it for enthusiasts in their Nd9, at a relatively modest price.
Looking forward to more reports…
Hello! Still happy with the Nd9?
Hi unfortunately I had to go into hospital several days ago for an operation, and have not had chance to play any records since getting back home this week. I am looking forward to having a listen tonight if I can only figure out how to put a record on whilst on crutches. Update coming soon.
I do hope your operation was successful.
Thank you I hope to find out next Friday ![]()
Get well soon, health first!
