New Rega P3 RS

Looks interesting. Makes you wonder if the p6 might not survive much longer

Should add, there’s more info on the Rega website, but not sure if that would be a commercial link. So have done the one below instead.

Looks nice but costly vs the p3.

Looks nice, but indeed pricy

Includes the Neo though.

It includes the Neo and ND5 cartridge. This together in the UK makes the new Planar 3 RS about £100 more expensive than a standard Planar 3 with the same options.

So about £100 for the “better” plinth. Sounds quite good value.

Looks a very nice value for me - almost p6 with a good discount

It looks a little like that but it needs listening comparison. I have not heard this new version of the 3. The 6 is a nice TT (the last one I listened to was the previous RP model, not the Planar) if the new Planar RS is close it may muddy the waters for Rega.

I have seen it said that the new RS model is in response to the success of the limited 50th-anniversary edition. The RS is a production model not limited though.

It does look that the Rega TT model range is looking a bit crowded between £900-£1500.

Looks very smart.

I think the Neo makes a huge difference too (especially usability).

I’ve still got my p3 from 1986, but with the motor upgrade (top advice @Richard.Dane ) and Neo PSU. Motor upgrade and Neo were presents from my dear departed dad. So whilst I’m not overly sentimental I’m not sure I could now give up what I have

At some point in the future I’ll get a new TT and keep the P3 for 45s duties only :grinning::guitar:

But all in all, and subject to sound, it does make you wonder where the P6 now fits in

Nice looking deck, if I was in the market for a new deck, this would certainly be worth considering.

DG…

Robinho - not sure how your pricing structure works.

Latest P3 with the ND5 is £895 and the Neo is £260 = £1155.

The RS is £999, a saving of £156.

Even better then but the price I saw was for a Planar 3 with a Neo and ND5.

It would be a good offer if the RS were a cheaper bundle. Getting a stiffer chassis and a Neo PSU for £100 over the PL3 without Neo is very nice.

You’re not confusing it with the P3-50 (P3, Neo, Exact)?

no

So - where did your information come from ?

Roy used to work for Ford so an “RS” version did raise a smile.

I think there is still a place for the P6 - it has the machined sub-platter and the main platter is two layers of glass to put more mass on the outer radius.

Having said that I sold my RP6 when moving to LP12 and having since bought a P3 50th anniversary for the second system - I don’t hear a discernible difference between what the P3 does and the RP6 did
