New Speaker for Superuniti

The tweeter in one of my Linn Kabers has failed, not really well matched with the superuniti so not going to get it replaced, but they were free! So one of HiFi worst tasks finding some new speaker. Thinking of Fyne 501 or Q Acousic 5040. Any comments from UK please

When I had a SuperUniti I used it with a pair of PMC twenty.23 speakers. PMC have updated the speakers a few times since then, the best being the twenty5.23i. Any of the 23 iterations would be a good match, and be available used for the price you are looking at for new speakers.

Neat Petite Classic, if the SU sounds anything like the SN

Heard great things about the alchris TX-1 and I think they look really good

Thought you were after standmounts until I googled the 5040

In which case I ‘d wholeheartedly recommend Kudos X3/C20/Super20

At that budget level there are loads of options.

The SuperUniti will drive pretty much anything, with varying degrees of success. We had it with our 4ohm Sonus Fabers and now in office with 8ohm (90dB sensitivity) Monitor Audio Monitor 3 floorstanders. Also went through a couple of standmounts before scratching the itch and reverting to floorstanders.

I’d have to be honest and say it’s a more successful pairing with the easier to drive MAs. With the SF it was workable, but adding a 250DR was a big step up in speaker control.

None of these will be close to a pair of Faber I’m afraid.

I’d do a home demo before decision.

As others have indicated, Kudos or Neat if you can find them within budget,

Was it ok from outside UK ?

You are after all posting on a international forum.

This isn’t probably very helpful to you but speakers are really such a very personal choice that it’s fairly meaningless to ask for recommendations. People will just recommend to you what they think sounds good. It may not be what you think sounds good. Which doesn’t really get you anywhere but do bear it in mind.

I ran Neat Momentum SX5i with my old SuperUniti.
I run Kudos X3 with an Atom in a second system.
The Q-Acoustics should sound terrific too, if the book mount ones I tried on my Atom are anything to go by.
Best to audition them at home if at all possible. Your room may determine which you prefer and likely sound very different to Kabers. (Mind you, I preferred SBLs to Kabers way back when).

Well aware of that, but it’s good to get an idea of what people are or have used.

It certainly is, however maybe THE most asked question on social audio medias..

I ran a Superuniti with B&W 603S2 floorstanders for a while. Great room-filling sound with plenty of decent bass. These can be had for £800 or so s/h. Superb bang for buck. I would imagine the 603 S3s would be really good vfm also if you can pick up s/h or ex-demo.

So do I - beautiful speakers.

I’m not from the UK, but I’d recommend giving Neat a listen—they are unique speakers that sound magnificent across all genres, starting with the modest Iotas and moving up the range.

You can’t give a recommendation on speakers like that. It’s like asking what’s your favourite song.

Room, music, system, budget?

The question has open ended answers…

Happens daily, people believe we are reading their mind.

A friend in Australia also uses his SuperUniti with Neat Momentum SX5i and it sounds terrific.

If I may disagree—I was simply suggesting giving Neat speakers a chance. Of course, everyone has their own ears, and what appeals to one person might not please another, but it was just a recommendation.

Neat Motive/SX 1 ot 2, Kef R3 or 5 or Q750/950 (not meta), Focal Theva 2 or 3, Harbeth monitor 30 etc.

I had exactly the same as a second system. Now following an upgrade the same PMC’s are used with an SN3 and an NDX2. The SuperUniti is now in our office paired with some old Dynaudio Audience 52’s and still sounds great.
