Greetings,
I am new here and new to Naim but not to stereophonics.
I recently inherited an older Naim system comprised of the following components:
NAC 52
Supercap
NAP 250
NA CDX
NAT 03 Tuner
I was able to get everything hooked up and working with the exception of a missing cable to the tuner.
My first and foremost question is that I went from a 5.1 setup to a 2.1. I would like to get back to the 5.1. From the documentation I have found the Supercap has 5 connectors. Number 5 is connected to NAP 250 and number 4 is connected to the subwoofer. Number 3 is empty and labeled Additional signal out. Number 1&2 are empty and labeled Power & Audio.
The question is can I use connectors 1, 2 or 3 to connect an external amplifier via line in or to the pre outs of my receiver?
Any other options?
I forgot to mention that I have a 4 pin din to a RCA cable as well as a 5 pin din to RCA cable.
BTW I love the Naim sound and quality.
Second question where can I purchase the missing Din cable/connectors. There are some on eBay but they are from China and I question the quality.
No this won’t work. The supercap provides output only from whatever source is playing on your system.
You need to connect the front left and right line level output from your av amp as input to the 52 preamp.
Welcome MJAllen,
The kit you have inherited is lovely. Take a bit of time getting it set up eg cable routing, a decent bit of space between the boxes etc and you should have an excellent sound, especially with vinyl if you have any and a record player of course.

Thank you Robert. Is there a suggested input to NAC 52 that you recommend?
Unfortunately connecting to the NAC 52 did not work. I tried channels 3, 5 and 6. I tried connecting to both the line in and line out of the external amplifier.
I know the amplifier is working because I connected it to the pre outs of my stereo receiver/amplifier and was able to play and listen to music through the amp.
The top row of switches on the NAC 52 control what you want to connect. I have the CD player and tuner connected but you can only select one at a time. I tried every switch on the bottom row with the external amplifier connected but no sound to the speakers.
So I am at a loss if I can’t connect to the Supercap. I am tempted to connect the external amplifier to the 3rd connector on the Supercap that is labeled “to stereo power amplifier “ but I am afraid I might cause some damage.
Such a dilemma.
Whatever you are playing on the 52, eg cd player, comes out of the supercap; 52 line inputs via sockets 2a/3/4/5/6.
The bottom row of buttons on the 52 is for the “record” output. Not an input.
You want to connect your av amp front/left line out sockets to an input alongside the cd player and tuner on the 52. It’s just another source.
That is exactly what I have connected, using inputs 2 and 3 and line out of amp.
Success but I am not sure why and if is the best method.
On the back of the Supercap there are 3 din connectors. One is connected to the NAP 250.
The middle one is labeled subwoofer, which I connected and it works. The 3rd connector was empty and unlabeled. I tried connecting the external amp to that connector but it didn’t work. Then I plugged the line out of the amp to the din connector where the sub was connected and connected the sub to the empty connector and now I have my original 5.1 setup working
Thanks for the advice
