I appreciate this topic seems to appear periodically. I have raised issue with Naim Support but wondered if anyone had thoughts?
New Uniti Core arrived this week. , over 2000 Cd’s imported from old HDX backup, some strange Genre additions but otherwise all well.
I have about a hundred Cd’s to rip which didn’t get backed up on my old HDX as had an unresolved issue before it died. First 3 Cd’s ripped were Elton John and identified without problem. However then started getting problems. Initially assumed it might be my taste in Blues and Jazz Etc an issue, although suspected old Albums from Albert Lee should have been found. Then failed to find Rolling Stones Hackney Diamonds and realised something was wrong.
Firmware fully up to date.
Seems to be looking up Auto (Legacy) and when I click on other databases just get ‘no online metadata found. Suspect its not actually looking up at all.
Any advice appreciated while I wait for Naim to get back.
I have heard that a mains power off restart of the Core can sometimes fix this. So turn the Core off with a long press on the front panel button. Then pull the mains plug out or switch the mains power off for ten seconds or so, then turn the mains power on again and the Core should restart.
I think Naim will advise you to do the same as David has - that was my experience - but it made no difference. I expect you have checked that the software is up to date. My experience has been that the failure to find any metadata appears to be random and is as likely to be some recent popular CD as an obscure specialist release. Naim support did tell me that Rovi (the principal source) might not be entirely up to date but that could hardly be the case with Hackney Diamonds, could it? Given the idiosyncrasies with the Core I do think Naim could take more of an interest. I did ask Richard if he could get someone responsible from Naim to respond here to the various issues that come up, but they don’t seem willing.
UPDATE
After 4 previous attempts I did unplus and isolate the Core again ,and this time on restarting the meta data is now being looked up. Still missing a large number of CD’s I know are on at least one of the databases but at least recognizing the Stones and Tom Jones, Will be interesting to see if this lasts .
