I recently got into naim. Started with a Supernait 3 added a non-Naim power supply then just last week added a NAC 282 and wow it sounds great as is. I’m looking to trade the Supernait 3 and get a NAP 250dr or 300dr? Looking for advice and opinions from you good people on which amp to get?
Remove the other thing completely and power the 282 from the supernait. You will need a real snaic 4.
Then buy a proper hicap dr.
A lot depends on your speakers, which aren’t mentioned in your profile. The 250 is the natural match for the 282. I’d suggest getting a Naim Hicap DR if you want to hear the 282 as designed. Note that you cannot discuss non Naim supplies here and that it really shouldn’t be mentioned in your profile.
I am with HH on this. I built my system around my speakers as I could not afford the other way around. Though probably overstepped it with the Linn LP12.
I am also wary of moving parts after half a life dealing with automation another quarter with solid state, with this, I mean the 300DR and its cooling fan.

The speakers I have are Kef R3 meta
I had a Google and they look nice and have nice specifications. I feel out of my comfort zone as they have a nominal impedance of 4 ohms. I think you will be fine with the amplifiers you have selected though I will leave it to others to select between the two amplifiers you have mentioned. I think the SN3 was a great starting point and maybe where I would have ended.
However with a minimum impedance of 3.2 ohms it might be better to go with separates as you have suggested.
I do with an XS2 with less efficient speakers than yours. Though in hind sight I should have have purchased the SN2 at the time.
Warm regards,
Mitch.
I’ve removed the power supply from my profile. How do I connect NAC 282 to Supernait 3 without external power supply ?
Both the 250DR and 300DR pair excellently with the 282, ultimately the 300 will reveal more of the music and plays better at lower volumes. But of course you need an extra shelf for the 300.
With regard to the PSU I would sell on the SN3 and PSU that can’t be mentioned and seek out a 2nd hand Supercap. Job done!

Lindsay
And then you’ll recommend a 252!!! Terrible man!!
I followed exactly the OPS path (naim hicap dr tho’!)
250DR for me. All very nice
. Actually that’s less clear cut.
It depends a little if you want to future proof for further upgrades? I had a Nac282 with a Nap200.
I demoed an Nap250 and Nap300 and went with the Nap300. It’s audibly better than the Nap250 (as you would hope), but also means I could eventually move to a Nac252 or even Nac552 and still keep the Nap300.
From a supernait to a Nac282 / Nap250 is also a nice jump though. The problems with upgradis!
Just jump straight to a 500dr!
Personally, I didn’t think spending £25k on a power amp to go with my £5k pre amp was a good idea….
However, spending £8k (actually, I paid £4k ex dem but that’s not the point) on a power amp to go with my £5k preamp did make sense.
Hey ho, we’re all different and the OP specifically asked about the Nap250 vs Nap300.
ok I think the 300dr will be what I’m going for as price wise it’s pretty much a straight swap 2nd Hand. In what ways does the 300dr sound better than 250dr ?
You’re right, apols was being flippant
He can still do better. Just a little effort. The S1 monos would pair so nicely a 282.
S1 monos ? I searched them up omg they look awesome. That price though wow
Apparently the Nap300 is just the Nap250 split into two boxes, but they do sound different.
Both as musical as each other, but on the Nap300 I noticed the bass notes were sharper and more lifelike, esp kick drums etc. This produces an overall clearer sound.
Like other have said, you need to get a hicap or supercap too.
Yeah, awesome!
I see Kef meta r3 on your profile. They don’t need a 300 dr. Apart if you project to upgrade your speakers.
