Will the old devices be updated as well?

Yes. Few posts above.

As has always with 1st Gen streamers, Naim will release a firmware update that enables YOU to update your device.

My apologies, guys, for not reading the above messages. I’ve fixed this problem for now by using Roon and I’m quite happy with the outcome.
I know it’s not easy for Naim to adapt a proper firmware to so many different devices but the first time I’ve read about the switch was a long time ago and my Mu-so Qb has only received two or three firmware updates during the years.
That’s where my pessimism comes from.

There’s a lot of pessimism about, but I’m sure Naim will come good. I listen to Naim’s new internet radio service on my QB2 and find it excellent. I have no reason to doubt it will be just as good when it comes to my QB1.

Email I did not receive:

"Dear [Person with registered player or forum user],

We’re sorry to report a problem with our 3rd party Internet radio provider (vtuner) , which means some customers may be experiencing problems with streaming radio services.

Firstly, please ensure your firmware is up to date [instructions here].

If you’re still having problems you may be using one of our older generation systems (list of devices). We’re working on an update to enable you to use our new radio service, in the meantime please rest assured we’re working with vtuner to resolve the issue.

SWALK

Naim guys. "

If I can write that in 5 mins surely someone at naim can. People just want to know you care and are working on the problem.

If you can write that in 5 minutes you can also read, in less than 5 minutes, the post at the top of Streaming Audio which does explain the situation.

At least for new platform streamers the issue is fixed and for the old platform a fix is coming.

That’s not universal: BBC Radio has become unavailable on my Auralic streamer and that’s looking permanent. It’s been widely aired by UK users on their forum, but there’s been no effective response from the company … unlike Naim.

Emails from the manufacturer to end users can be a tricky one thanks to GDPR rules, dealer and distributor agreements etc… Luckily Naim provide this forum where Naim users worldwide can be quickly informed of issues such as the Vtuner outage. Hence a “sticky” notice was immediately placed at the top of the Streaming Audio room on Saturday morning by yours truly, letting everybody know and providing some suggestions for alternative ways of accessing internet radio on affected devices. I have also been answering specific queries relating to the vTuner outage throughout the weekend.

Hi Richard, thanks. I am aware of that but of course it does not allow for our being in different rooms and wishing to listen to different stations at the same time. It’s a partial work around though.

No, it doesn’t, but as a work-around it’s hopefully useful until such time as either Vtuner restores their service or Naim are ready to release their in-house Internet Radio service for 1st gen Naim streamers.

Another alternative is, if you have an old Apple Airport Express handy, then connect one to the Mu-So and use that to Airplay iRadio from another Apple device.

Hi @Richard.Dane any idea how long until firmware update will be released for first generation equipment? Within a month / two months / six months? We’ve been waiting a long time now. I asked before but no response… I know you don’t want to be a hostage to fortune and I understand that the update is tricky, but… Thanks

I think we’re talking days and weeks rather than months, but as with all things firmware related, it’s ready when it’s ready and not before.

On the topic of a FW update, while it’s relatively straightforward for the original Mu-So and Mu-So Qb, it’s a bit more involved with the original Unitis and Streamers, so I have asked Naim that when the time comes to ensure that clear and simple instructions for the update are provided to avoid accidental mishaps.
