No Ryder Cup thread?

Surprised to see that there wasn’t a single mention of the Ryder Cup as I look at the forum this morning. Was a full on day of sport(s) with football, the Ryder Cup, American football on early, the last day of the baseball regular season, and others.

I was busy trying to consume all of it - so wasn’t browsing anything else. Wondering if everyone here was either so enthralled by the golf, thought it was a foregone conclusion that the European squad had it in the bag and didn’t tune in, or were hiding behind the sofa when the US started roaring back.

Or there’s just not a lot of golf fans here and it was on too late?

I’m not a fan of golf, as I think it’s just a waste of a good walk!

I watched or kept up via www.news for most of the 3 days.
The Sunday singles was bit of a shocker for Europe after the domination in the pairs.
But then again, the pairs was a bit of a shocker for the USA, so I guess it just got evened out.
Great golf all around irrespective of who you cheered for.
Shame about some elements of the crowd behaviour, but that’s the Ryder Cup.
Well done Europe, I was not really expecting to bring it back home.

I’ve been following it. Extremely enjoyable the first two days. Last night was painful/tense etc.
Glad they managed to silence the local crowd, some of who were a disgrace.
It’s a huge achievement winning away. Seems the Europeans had a trump card for everything the US threw at them.

Great respect for the USA players (apart from one maybe :joy:) and that comeback. Great stuff. But the better team won in the end.
However, the behaviour from some of the US fans was a disgrace. Fortunately though , in the main, it seemed to inspire the Europeans to great things

Not a golf fan but I like a bit of sporting drama and was at home so watched a fair bit of D1 and D2.

In the end I tried to watch with the sound off or radio commentary (which unfortunately wasn’t in sync) as I just couldn’t take the crowd any more.

I accept loud passionate support, booing the opposition and derision when a shot is missed etc. I can even cope with the utterly asinine yells of ‘get in the hole’ but too much crossed waaay over the limit for me. Personal abuse, swearing etc. Profane chants.

I switched off and it was gripping sport I wanted to enjoy but I’m sorry, if that is considered acceptable because ‘its the Ryder Cup’ then I think the sport has a big issue. Nobody got ejected as far as I could tell. Seemed to be tacit acceptance by the US team of these behaviours. Just wrong for me. Does that attract people to the sport? Surely it just escalates for the next time etc unless something is done. What next, a full on punch-up?

Should be posting about great sport, what a shame.

I don’t watch golf much but kept my eye on the score. Isn’t it usually the case that the US players do well individually but less well when they play as a team (4 balls etc)? So catching up on the final day was always likely?

Just wait for the US games in the World Cup.

Edge of the seat stuff. :face_with_peeking_eye:
Really very worried as we got into the last hour still needing a 1/2 point to retain…:scream:
All good in the end, but naturally very disappointed in the behaviour of certain US supposed “Golf Fans”, especially during D1 & D2!!

I enjoyed watching a lot of the Ryder Cup and agree the behaviour of some fans was reprehensible.

The spectating ticket was USD750 a day and some were ejected from the course for their behaviour. Not a blue collar sport.

The colour of your “collar” should not reflect your ability to be respectful though Rhod.
The sport should be accessible to all walks of life, but respect should also be universal and not limited to people of privilege.
I would also suggest that there would have been as many disrespectful people in the higher classes as those from the ranks of the “Blue Collar” contingent.

USD750 a ticket was my point. Accessibility for those with money.

Apologies, I misunderstood your point :+1:t3:

It really was behind the sofa stuff on day 3, after such a fantastic performance by Europe on D1 & D2 I thought the D3 singles were going to be a bit of a formality with Europe running away with it and securing a record points win.
But that is what makes sport of any kind so unpredictable the board was a sea of red with all the top half American players putting in some great wins even DeChambeau managed to turn round a 5 shot deficit against Fitzpatrick to earn a half and it took a great put from Shane Lowry to secure a half and retain the cup with Europe eventually running out winners 15 points to 13.
It was a fantastic spectacle only marred by the over boisterous New York crowd but well done to Europe for standing firm and coming through in the end.

I guess not so much interest in Golf on here I know I am not. I don’t mind the thought of upsetting the orange one.

It is the same with Women’s Rugby England have only just won the World cup last weekend but not so much as a whisper on here.

A pity in my view but you can’t make people interested. The final was great although I probably enjoyed the Semi between New Zealand and Canada more. 81,000 plus crowd at Twickenham were interested and nearly 6 million watched on TV.

I read somewhere yesterday that the US is commissioning an independent study to look into why they’re not more competitive.

But this one I have to say is looks like a compounding of tactical errors by an inexperienced captain. That said, I think KB did a heck of a job under the circumstances.

For me the US team played more like individuals than team members in D1 & D2. This self biased approach served them well on D3, but by then it was an enormous mountain to climb.
Amazingly they got very close to pulling it off. Better pairings with a more supportive approach on D1 & D2, coupled with the incredible singles performance on D3, would have given them a convincing win.
That said, Mrs Q & I are very happy with the Europe win
