I had their chrome combo CD50 and amp…, was it VA50 ?
Superb looking, I’ve heard better sounding combos though.

Oh noo why??
I use a Teac CD-P6000 with my Naim 1, I love Teac CD players, they always had more bass than my Naim CD player.
It was a WHF love combo. But that amp would give you burns it ran so hot.
I really wanted one at one stage but then I discovered other things.
SElect switch was causing drop outs and would have cost too much for me to fix. He got that fixed and using it as a shop system. Great vibe and look for his store as he sell used vinyl, cds and vintage hifi. has frequent offers to take it off his hands ![]()
My Naim box count is now half what it was a year ago. I down to four boxes from eight. A Superline/SCDR is replaced by a Boulder 1108, and a NDX2/XPSDR is replaced by a Weiss DAC504-MK2. I also replaced the brain/brawn Fraim racks with HRS EXR racks. I still have my 252/SCDR/300DR. That might get replaced in a year or two as well.
Otherwise I have an Atom, Mu-so2 and Mu-so Qb2. I don’t expect to replace them unless they break.
Other non-Naim items in the main HiFi are my Clearaudio turntable and 3 tonearms + Lyra/Dynavector cartridges, Dynaudio speakers, REL subs, and Siltech cables.
These aren’t serious faults; I bought the Nait serviced by an old gentleman. He said it occasionally had a scratching sound on the right channel. Well, I immediately thought of the volume control, cleaned and oiled it, and it’s like new again.
My only piece of Naim is my XS3 and consider it the heart of the system and my very favourite unit
Non Naim is Rega turntable, Arcam cd player and Cambridge Audio streamer
I would change any of the non Naim items but never the XS3 as it’s ridiculously good in my opinion
I have never owned any Naim. I didn’t demo some a few years ago when I was upgrading my power amps. At the time going Naim meant changing my preamp as well so nothing happened. Current main system is:
Cyrus CDi-XR into Chord Hugo TT2 into Cyrus MonoX300 Signatures into Wilson Benesch Vectors.
Home Cinema System is LGC3 (and some other sources) into NAD 758V3 amp into Monitor Audio Wall Speakers and RSW Sub
Holiday House System is Bluetooth from phone into Cyrus One HD into Dynaudio Audience 73 speakers
Still find this a very interesting place.
Manufacturers of gear I have that is or has been associated with my hifi system, whether presently in use or not, are Apple, ATC, Behringer, Chord electronics, Gustard, Musical Fidelity, PMC, Scanspeak, Tag McLaren
Your opening post begs the question as to why you have a pleurality of unused CD players?!
I was thinking that also
We have the choice of a couple of cd players, Arcam & Marantz, but the Arcam is the better player, since I sold the 5si, so it stays in the system
We very rarely use cd’s now as the streamer is so good
The other night we played a few cd’s and compared the sound quality to it’s streaming equivalent and honestly there was not much difference; on balance we both preferred the streaming version slightly
I’ve made the decision to get rid of all my cd’s now as they just aren’t being used and they take up quite a large unit in the dining room
It’s a good question. The Meridians are a 506, a G07 and a G08. The 506 is aged, skips, doesn’t track well, and it’s not essential to get it fixed. it’s not needed. I do use the G07 in aa way, it’s connected to a Naim pre-power combo, which then feeds via an energiser into a pair of Stax Lambdas. It’s not that often that I actually use the electrostatic headphones. The G08 just doesn’t work smoothly and reliably. I might try getting it fixed (again) and then give it to a friend. But I’ve got a CD player in every room in the house anyway, so there’s no immediate rush xx
Roksan Xerxes/Vertere SG PSU/Vertere SG tonearm/Dynavector XVS1/Kudos 505s/some Vertere wiring tonearm lead etc/Chord Odyssey speaker cable.
Ah, I took unused to mean never have been used, rather than not used now!
An interesting contrast. I agree that it would seem odd if I accreted hi fi items which I never used. But it doesn’t seem odd in the same way to have bought books you’ve never got round to reading, CDs you’ve never got round to listening to or (much more indulgent) clothes you’ve never worn. I wonder why the difference, love xx
I’m using since January a passive pre-amp Creek OBH-22 with NAP-250 DR. It does really good job. The music signal is clearer and more crisp. Furthermore it has a remote control.
Crispier?
I’ve heard some hifi adjective word salad, but this is a first.
Thanks! I’m still learning English ![]()
Non Naim… I always liked the plain vanilla Rotel integrated amplifiers and the Diamond series loudspeakers from Wharfedale.
No matter what my main system was, I always had (still have) one version of them either playing in another room in the house or rotating and mixing them in the main system.
I know they are not high-end enough but on the other hand I have never been snobbish.
