It was a positive comment from Martin about the Allegri in a Naim system that alerted my attention to it. Something about it not being the weakest link when used in a Naim 500 system. I spoke to Martin a couple of times about it and he was a little less positive in his views about whether or not it could improve on a balanced Naim system due to it breaking the grounding that an all Naim system has.
All ancient history for me now, but it was an interesting experiment at the time.

@Peter63 hi Peter. I think the preamp in the Linn is better than the 272/555 combination. Overall it is hard to judge how much of increased refinement and sound staging is due to the DAC. As far as I am concerned it is fantastic sounding box. I have never heard the 282 but have heard the 552 and S1. The hifi shop who sold me the Linn said the two aforementioned preamps would improve the sound of the Linn. But in my system I am not sure if it is worth that as so good already.
