My Nova is telling me there is no input signal from my Panasonic TV. All was well previously. I’ve tried a different cable to no avail. All other inputs connected work. I tried the obvious power down etc. but still no signal. What is a concern is that we had a lightening storm last weekend, although the Nova was in stand-by at the time. Maybe something fried? Any advice gratefully appreciated. Thanks
Check your TV. It might have updated itself which changed a setting?
Try power cycling the Nova (20s before plugging back in) with the HDMI cable disconnected, and to be sure, you’ve restarted your TV as well?
Indeed. My first thought was it moved off LPCM onto something unsupported like Dolby Digital.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is power cycling? I have had it powered down already by simple unplugging. Thanks
Exactly that. Unplug, wait 20s (or longer), plug back in.
No joy thus far. Did a so called ‘factory reset’ Tried connecting a DVD player to it with HDMI and playing a CD - nothing. Connected DVD phono plug outlets to Nova DIN socket and can play music. Suspect I shall have to contact Naim tech. dept. for help.
Nova doesn’t iirc act as a processor, so trying with dvd will likely not prove anything.
Purchase a cheap optic cable and connect between tv and Nova, ensuring output is correctly set.
Quality will ime equal hdmi, only impact might be lack of remote control interaction.
HDMI issues have been raised a number of times here on forum. There is no strict adherence to protocols by tv manufacturers, whilst Naim aim to adhere. Try a search here. In meantime it may very well be the tv at issue.
Absence of detail re tv model, cables in use et al, means you likely will only receive general answers.
Lightning storm forecast - one rule - unplug everything electronic - everything!
Update: I paid the princely sum of £2:79 delivered from ebay for an optical interconnect and hey presto I have audio back again from the TV. Makes me wonder why I paid for a premium HDMI cable originally.
Optic often solves HDMI issues. Just take care with the optic lead, which are more vulnerable imho to being damaged. Now that you have optic working, you might try on sale or return a couple of cables, beyond the cheap as chips version. Nothing too fancy / expensive but you may find they are not all equal.
I use optical on one AV system where the aoundbar has a learning remote that controls the TV. But where no such remote exists on the other AV system, I really find HDMI indispensable as ot means that the audio volume control is telayed via the TV to vontrol the amp. Having just one small remote that control everything is a must these days.
