Attended the 300 series demo last night at the SORG. Set-up was using Kudos 707s with NACA 5. Started with bare units into 250.3 and ended with dual power supplies and 350s.
I thought the overall Naim sound was retained and that there was the expected improvement as the system was incrementally improved. The challenging aspect was just how good the 707s were. Obviously difficult to separate out the contributions from the room and different electronics to mine but the sound signature of the speakers was the revelation for me.
Not sure that 707s would meet domestic acceptablility criteria - and price a bit more than I’d happily spring for - but I’m sure a pair of 606s would fit right in!
It was an NDS > 252 > active 300DR. The room was fairly large and long — I guess it’s used for events like wedding receptions. It was astonishing how the speakers filled that huge room with music without any strain.
The music played, however, wasn’t really my cup of tea. But they accepted my request for a bit of Sibelius — Symphony No. 5. That was mesmerising…
After I saw your post I did a google and found some interesting blog posts by someone who had been to various Acoustica shows and found mention of 707s being demonstrated in and around 2015. I hadn’t known about those shows at the time
