I have an NDS with a 555DR PS. I am looking to change to the NS333 streamer for the upgrade in streaming functionality / connectivity.
I know that NAIM have made a burndy that uses one of the “out” connections on the 555DR PS that then splits into two input power supply connections into the NS333. ( hope this is clear ).
My question : Am I losing/ wasting a lot of the potential of the 555PS DR by only using one “burndy out” ?
How does the 555DR PS compare with the new classic power supply in this regard combined with a NS333 ?
I am also aware that NAIM made some burndy retrofits that would allow both of the 555DR PS “Burndy out” connections to be used ? Does anyone have detail on that please ?
Thank you as always to the people on this forum that take the time to guide people such as myself in these areas of listening improvements.
You can also add say a Lindemann Bridge II using NDS as a DAC. That is the most cost effective solution. If moving on to NSS 333 and 555PSDR like I have done then you need the two cables above. 333+555 sounds very very good IMO My NDS is now a sleep in the rack but might hook it back up during Christmas holiday for reference again. NDS is a wonderful DAC but as you know its streaming section is far outdated today.
I also had NPX 300 on trial for my NSS 333 but thought it added more like XPSDR do vs 555PSDR. It makes NSS 333 better but 555PSDR brings our the most IMO 555PSDR is till Naims best power supply and one of Naims best boxes IMO looking at what it adds to their electronics.
When service is planned i’ll ask if they can change the LED in it. Not sure if this is a service they offer for power supplies though but should be possible.
If you open up each of the three power supplies, im surprised naim sell their npx 300. Inside it looks similar to an xps-dr. A 555dr psu is a monster. Those big caps clearly make a huge impact. Im surprised more are not (re) using their 555psu rather than trying those npx 300s.
I bought a used ND5 XS2 to get the new functionality which improved the SQ but kept the overall signature of the NDS which I really like. I am thrilled with it. the NS333 has a different sound to the NDS which I was not so keen on.
Looks great, nice photo capture. I can’t answer your burn-in question as I don’t have a Turntable yet. I can only dream at this point. The Rega P8/ND7 combo is high on my list if it can sound as good as my digital setup.
Agreed. My fear, which is likely unfounded is I don’t want to buy a TT and not play it thinking digital sounds better. They are both different and I need to always remember that. BTW your digital setup the NS333/555DR is where I’d like to end up. I love my nDAC combo but 2 boxes instead of 3 would be great.
