NSC222 output

Hi, I’ve just bought (waiting to be delivered) a NSC222. I want to connect it to a single ended power amp so will need the correct cable.

On this post Pinouts - #2 by Richard.Dane Richard helpfully posted XLR pinout but if I wanted to get a cable to connect the output of a NSC222 to a single ended power amp, if I connect Pin 3 to the ‘ground’, Pin 2 to the signal and leave the shield floting at the power amp end - is that correct?

In addition to the XLR output, the 222 also has a standard RCA output, so any RCA cable will do fine.

Naim recommend that the XLR outputs are used even if you connect to a single ended power amp input. I don’t know why, but if that’s what they say there is probably a good reason behind it.

Designacable sell XLR to RCA cables if you don’t want to make some up.

Eloise, I would guess what’s required here is a pair of “pseudo-balanced” XLR Cannon to RCA Phono interconnects. I’m sure there are some tutorials or sites that explain how to wire such a thing. Failing that, contact Naim support.

I’d put money on it being down to earthing probably. Although, I know very little about electronics, I do think I know enough about Naim
