Exactly. Although, full disclosure, I have found an ND555 for 4.5k GBP. They’ll be giving them away soon. The power supplies on the other hand seem to holding up. It’s bonkers.
The 555PSDR can be used on 332 and 333 as well as ND555 and NDX2. And of course legacy CD players and nDAC. It’s the best power supply they have made. And so residuals are 50% of standard price or less as years increase.
That’s super low. Are you sure it’s legit?
No
But you can take a look at the good corner ![]()
I’ve had ND555 and 333/300 in the same room for an extended period of time. The answer to your question is NOT a straightforward one. I will be a bit controversial and say it does not depend on the rest of your system but rather on your sonic preferences. I would not be worried about the streaming platform, at the end of the day you could use either as a Roon endpoint no matter how the platforms end up evolving. The 333 needs the 300, without it there is no contest no matter what your preferences are. The latest fw versions have complicated the situation for both streamers. Too many variables… If I were you I’d purchase both temporarily and keep the winner after an extended trial ![]()
Thank you GK. that’s helpful and doesn’t actually complicate matters. It’s all grist to the mill and I will continue to mull over matters. And you opted for the ND555 right?
Reggie
I have a full 500 set up with 2xPS on the ND 555. I had the fortune of borrowing a 333 and an NPX during and after FWgate.
Put it this way I still have the ND555. I can go into detail but for me there was no comparison.
Thank you Lamby. I have read about your and others journey through the firmware gate saga. I note that the ND555 are often accompanied by two PS’ also. I just don’t want to go down the route of piling up the boxes and complexity and that may end up being the deciding factor for me.
The fewest possible high (sound) quality boxes is my aim. Currently and near term streaming only.

Out of curiosity. Is a major advance of the 333 not the balanced output, which would not get used with a Nait 50? I am sometimes wondering of upgrading my preamp to a balanced output one but then would have to change my Nap250 as well.
Yes please ![]()
I get it. I have quite a stack. It was what I would call different with one box each. Not as clear cut. The 333 wasn’t quite as clear and detailed but it did produce wonderful bass. It was warmer - a little juicier. But for me the clarity of the 555 is just startling.

Further. It may be legit but I will not touch it. When it looks too good to be true, it usually is. Nevertheless the question stands. Are you running the 333 with or without PS? I saw your comments NPX v PS555 which is interesting but not surprising.
Reggie
Naked or with PS? Naked I’d agree but with a PS it become something else. Haven’t heard ND555 though ![]()
@gk_audio How are things going? I added two NPX300 units. One for the 332. One for the 333. Big improvement.
The last thing is my TT. I have a Rega P9 with an RB1000 arm. I feel my NVCTT deserves better than an Exact MM. I ordered an Apheta 3. I need a hinged lid which keeps me at the P9. Slowly returning to LP. I would have considered a Linn, but my disabilities do not interact well with a spring suspension.
Good stuff!
With both having one PS. The 333 wasn’t quite brilliant but the 555 has clarity at another level.
I had no desire to mix OC with NC. It was just easier to add two NPX300 units.
I wouldn’t add a 555PSDR to your system either. What you have is completely NC unified. To have an odd box would look weird and looks are important also.
@Dan_M My husband is the “aesthetic “ part of our duo When we needed new racks, they could not be taller than the art work on the walls He chose the Focal Utopia because the color matched Not because of SQ Speskerx could not be above certain height, because of our skyline view I have no aesthetic ability. Since he does not take issue with my spending, I try to respect what is important to him.
Is it so? If you like what nds does it might be hard to adept to nd555 - and your room may tend to analytical sound too. You should do a demo before.
