Oldclassic vs newclassic

282 sounds fantastic with NC250.

The 500DR is at the top tier. Itā€™s glorious with the Statement Preamp. I was talking about the sound signature of the NC250 being more similar not the performance. I would be definitely be on drugs with that conclusion

i think there is quite a few on drugs on the forum at the moment!lol i suspect a 500dr is glorious with most things mate. its all gone bonkers on here with statements, someone will always prefer one thing over another at various price points, but ā€œbetterā€ suggests technically better. new classic 250 isnt technically better than even a none dr 300. its all rammed in one box for a start

hm, on NC?-)
I know I am but luckily I am not interested in more boxes and this is behind me, otherwise this NC stuff would have easily grown into a small disaster:)

The 300DR was part of a lengthy demo I did with various combos of NDX2/XPSDR/252/SCDR/250DR. I wasnā€™t interested in the 300DR but it was there so I included it. I found it to be a darker version of the 250DR, definitely better at low volumes but seemed slow at higher volumes. Having owned the 250NC for a while now I would not even consider the 300DR but thatā€™s mostly b/c of the overall signature. Whether or not itā€™s better is subjective and some people will prefer the OC sound to the NC.

Like I said a couple of months ago we donā€™t stock 500 Series. So sorry unable to compare.

Thereā€™s no reason to think it wouldnā€™t I suppose. Iā€™ve never been one to mix though I did briefly when I transitioned to OC and CDS2/XPS with SC2/SN1 and later 252/SC2/250.2 before going to CDS3.

i meant the 350s really dude, but i get what you mean if you have no reference on 500dr

Hi @djh1697

I can verify, we have re-designed both the amplifier and the chassis.

The concept of a fully linear, class-AB stereo amplifier with a fully regulated linear power supply has been kept. The entire signal path as before uses discrete transistors.

  • It is now 25% more powerful.
  • The updated power amplifier includes our latest 3 transistor ultra-compliant constant current sources (They can be thought of as very quiet and linear current regulator instead of a voltage regulator). Thereā€™s one in the front-end of the amplifier and one in the second gain stage.
  • New balanced input circuits using zero-feedback single-ended class-A buffers, powered from separate internal DR regulators. Can accept single-ended inputs via the appropriate lead.
  • Added a microprocessor to manage power up/down, protection, fan, inter-product comms etc.
  • Added multi-speed fan for those playing enthusiastically!
  • Added music sensing with auto shutdown (can be disabled) - this uses a smart technique not to affect the sound quality, essentially it only sniffs the signal for around 1mS every minute. I.e. it is off 1/60,000th of the time.
  • Added ultra quiet muting.
  • Added toroidal transformer soft-start circuits to prevent RCD tripping and protects the fuse from shock fatigue.
  • Added 0.5W standby mode.

Cheers
Steve

Just to clarify a couple of months ago I was asked about NAP 350 v NAP 500 DR.

Fwiw, Iā€™ve found the New Classic NAP 250 offers superior punch, speed, dynamics, bass grip, soundstage height, soundstage width, soundstage depth and ā€˜airā€™.

Thx for sharing your experiences. Does appear the 250 offers more of the openness /sparkle/air I m looking for than 250dr. Will certainly try home demo

Impressive list of improvements Steve. How would you describe the impact on sound compared to 250 dr, and referring to my first question; sound difference in set nsc222/250 vs 282/250ndx2?.

I think also new is an eddy current break between each pair of outputs.
