OLED failure after non-use

My UQ2 has been largely out of use for the last year or so. I updated my SU and the UQ2 yesterday and noticed that the UQ2 now has a failing OLED.

I was under the impression that failing OLEDs mainly was due to leaving the screen on, which mine never was. It was definitely perfectly bright when I used it last. Has this happened anyone else?

Years ago I had an nVi, oled failed, new one fitted that one failed within 6 months, I moved it on.

It baffles the mind how naim continued with these for so long!

My NDX and UQ2 had perfect screens. Then I boxed them up for a move. The UQ2 came out of the box 3 months later with the screen half dead which then rapidly died over the next half year. The NDX came out of storage after 3 years with the screen totally dead.

While usage time is a major contributing factor, it isn’t the only factor. Just simple age and storage conditions also play a role.

I don’t think that the OLEDs fail due to being on too much. My NDS was nice and bright when I received it and was informed that it had always been set to switch off after a few seconds. After a few weeks, it just went dim. No fade but straight from bright to dim and subsequently almost nothing. Dealer replaced it FOC so no drama but the cause is not as simple as overuse.

One big reason that I like the screen less ND5XS2 streamer, just one less thing to die and need replaced. The sound quality isn’t too shabby either! :grinning:

Or the screen-less CI one for less critical areas!

I was really surprised and a bit disappointed as I’d treated my UQ2’s OLED with almost obsessive care since I got it back in 2015!
