Olive Nap 250?

Hi forum.

I am currently using a Nap 200 , with Sbl’s and wish to try an Olive Nap 250, with my Nac 82 preamp.

Would much of an improvement be made ? as I listen to most music at moderate levels, and am hoping for more depth to the music at a lower level?.

Regards

Pieman.

A 250 would be much better at any volume. Do you have a Hicap with your 82?

SBLs will be improved all round, a better power amp doesn’t just improve low frequencies. Make sure it has been serviced though.

An Olive NAP 250 is an enormously capable amplifier, but will need to go back to Salisbury for service/recap to give of its best, if this has not been done recently (with papers to prove it). Do remember to factor in the cost of this when buying the amp.

You can also get a Naim Approved service with Darren at “Class A” in Sheffield, which may be near you so possibly save on the crash and bumps of delivery services.

I have a CB era 250, with an NAC82, powered by 2 HiCaps…

I think you could guess what I would say…

Anything - is better with a NAP250.

For sound per £, an ok E 250 is unbeatable imho. A service in the last 12 or so years is important.

I hope your dem goes well.

I went from a NAP200 tot NAP250DR. Not the olive version. For me it was not a big step up.
Just very small.

This is perhaps a good example of why one should always take other people’s suggestions with a pinch of salt. One person’s massive upgrade can often be someone else’s minor improvement. It can, of course, also be system, room and loudspeaker dependent.

There are also considerable differences between 250s of different generations. Older models, especially chrome bumper and olive, will vary from one amp to the next just because of their age. They also differ from the more recent Classic 250.2 and 250DR which both have a higher power output and an ability to drive more demanding speakers.

Source is rather important too, no idea what OP use.
A mediocre source used with upgrades later in chain, not always ideal.

Hi

I am currently using a nd5xs2, as a source.

I agree, there are so many subjective changes that can improve or alter the overall sound.

I think that’s what keeps most people upgrading, trying to get a better sound, but this can be a backwards step, even though it has cost more.

And then again, you could have two!

Or even… three…

I would also need a different SNAXO in order to try that out on the Briks.

I have two Olive NAP135s and an Olive NAP250 - which make a pleasingly loud racket.
