Olive rack arrangement

Hi all, yet another gears order post – your opinions are greatly appreciated!

Rack:
Isoblue*2 (4 levels each)

Gears: (9 boxes)
LP12
Armageddon
CDS1
CDPS
NDX2
52
52PS
135
135

Usage:
LP12 and CDS1 are main sources, NDX2 sleep 95% of time for working/casual listening

Current arrangement:

Left
LP12
52
NDX2
135 (right ch)

Right
CDS
CDPS
52PS
135

('Geddon on floor)

My questions:

  1. Would you please suggest a better arrangement?

  2. Could placing the 135s under 52 head unit improve the sound?

Thanks!

I have to say, back when I had my Olive series, I experimented with pretty much every possible placement - left, right, above, and below. The only arrangement that sounded ever so slightly worse was having the HiCap, NAT02, and later the NAPST positioned to the right of the preamp (first the 72, later the 62), presumably because of their proximity to the phono boards.

That’s not really an issue with the 52, though. So in your case, I’d simply go with whatever setup makes the most sense from a practical point of view - whichever arrangement gives you the easiest operation and the cleanest cable routing.

Thank you!
I’m still very curious if power amp should count as Brain and Brawn, and solved through a search on old forum! Thanks again

There is a big transformer in the Nap 135,so
Keep well away from the Nac 52 head unit
unit.

Thanks Igel! Should the 135 be placed above the psu?

Hi Julius

How about :

Left Rack

LP12

52 Head

135

135

Right Rack

CDS

NDX2

52 PS

CDPS

Ideally as Igel pointed out you’d keep the 135’s two levels away from the 52 but if you only have two four level racks it’s about the least worst option . LP12 and CDS needs tip tier positioning and Burndy dressing has to be factored in doesn’t it? Happy listening

I would do it like this.
One more empty shelf under the 52 head if you want to level it.

Yes very important to have the CDPS like this
for Burndy dressing :+1:

I’d want the Armageddon off the floor, but you’d need another level methinks.

Thanks for the great suggestions, Cohen, Igel and Loki!

In the end I put the NDX2 under the 52 head unit as a known compromise, but we seldom use it and 95% in deep sleep mode so everything is fine most of time. A tad brighter when using though, probably due to interference.

The rest are all good and very enjoyable, will re-arrange according to all your suggestions next month.

Just an update of the rack arrangement (and thanks for all of your help! much appreciated)

I put the 2 psu (52ps & cdps) at the bottom now, with 135s sit between the cds head unit (top of brawn rack) and cdps (bottom of brawn rack).

my ndx 2 is always in deep sleep mode so I put it underneath 52 head unit – the only compromise here. But we don’t need top notch sound when listening to streaming anyway.

Such rearrangement resulted in much better nuance and dynamic. I don’t need any warm-up to get the warm, full and meaty sound at all! Really look forward to how it would go after 5 days…

Playing Paul Chamber’s ‘Charmer’s Music’ in SHM-CD format, full, fat and warm, perfect prat!

Did’n’t know arrangement of power amps is so important, I thought it works like PSUs…
