On/Off button on Naim 250DR

On/off button on Naim 250DR keeps popping out. Only way I can find to fix it is to
make sure it is out, then flick it in with your finger tip very quickly. It should then hold.
Once done - don’t switch it off - ever. Unit out of warranty so god knows how much Naim would charge for a new on/off button. At leat three figures i would wager.

A little trick when the switch doesn’t want to latch; switch off and unplug the amp. Take a pencil with an eraser on the tip and use the eraser end to exercise the button in and out repeatedly until it starts to reliably latch again.

Remind me, just how much did these cost new……. and they didn’t include an eraser tipped pencil in the box :scream::scream::scream::scream:.

Good advice. I’ll try it. Appreciate help.

Exactly what I was thinking. Sounds like perhaps Naim need to include pencil (with rubber tip)
as part of the kit!

With Naim logo of course. And a directional arrow

It is made in the UK after all :winking_face_with_tongue:

It’s part of a long tradition. Like expensive sports cars with misaligned panels and slightly crooked doors.

Hardly, I think. Equating a power switch that briefly decides not to latch with the dark days of the British motor industry is well wide of the mark.

Naim’s build quality has always been something to be proud of, and remains so to this day. Yes, it’s annoying when something relatively simple like a power switch doesn’t latch, but it’s not a particularly common occurrence and fairly easily remedied, as I detailed above.

And, while I realise your post is somewhat tongue-in-cheek, on the subject of cars, the UK builds some incredible ones of the highest quality - just look at Bentley or Gordon Murray Automotive as just a couple of examples.

Erm……. isn’t Bentley a veedub these days? :scream:

OK I’ll get my coat.

Prof. Murray for the T50 wanted the very best switches as used on high end cameras

Well I must have been very unlucky with my Supercap and my 250 as both had the same problem. Perhaps I’m unable to use an on-off switch properly. Despite the pencil advice, in my experience, once these switches start to go, no pencil is going to bring them back to perfect function. As always, others will have a different experience.

Anyhow a well known, recently moved north London dealer thought my SC switch was mendable on site but after looking at the fitting and how everything was plumbed in, then decided it was a job for Naim. To be fair, no other dealer local to me was interested in mending it themselves - all said send it to the factory. So the SC was sent off and returned mended.

When I had the 250, it was serviced and DR upgraded at the same time as the switch being mended so I guess the switch was replaced at no cost extra to the other work I had done. Thinking about it, I had the logo replaced at the same time FOC.

You said Naim would charge a three figure sum. Correct, my bill was £173.00. Ouch.

I suppose the only solution is to keep the switch in at all times. I do that now without any hiccup.
I’d have to switch down during a thunderstorm or the like. My flicking the switch in did work - but now in I’m loathe to switch it off again. Thanks for coments.
