Ooh, how pleasant

I disengaged my HCDR from the SN3 today, and…how mellow and pleasant it sounds.
I can understand why some prefer Supernaits without Hicaps.
I like both combinations though.
Different…

Same thing when adding an extra power to the CD3.5…
I mean I prefer too without extra power.

I preferred my SN2 without HCDR. It just sounded more coherent, to me.

I have a Supernait 3 on its own here and a very good friend had a spare Hi cap dr and he preferred it without.
He was very honest and said it wasn’t worth the extra expense and put me off buying from him.
I’ve no complaints about detail and power in my living room.
Plenty of steam more than required. :+1:t2:

It is all a matter of personal preference and what sounds good to you in your room.

I do like the SN3 with a Hicap but I have only listened to an SN3 with and without in a session. I have not had to live with one either way for an extended period.

When I connected the HCDR the first time, when I bought it, I did not jump of joy.
I heard more details and more depth, but also a slightly harder sound to my ears.
I bought s/h, so it could easily be resold.
I am keeping it though.
Classical, symphonic music, which is a complex task to reproduce, sounds definitely better with HC.
Pop, rock sounds fine with a bare SN3. But of course also with HC.

I imagined similar before moving to Rega Aethos.

I used SN2, SN2/HCDR, 202/HC/200, 282,HCDR/250.2, 72/HC/250 amo.
Combinations in Naim land are huge.

Pro’s and Con’s depending on source and involved music.
