I spent an hour or two tearing my hair out yesterday as I was trying to play a Region A locked disc on my multi-region modified Oppo blu-ray player without success. Usually to change the region code playback you just wake from standby using one of the numerical keys on the remote keypad - 1 for region A, 2 for region B. However, it no longer wakes from the keypad and hence I can no longer switch region. I have unplugged and re-plugged, cleared the blu-ray live cache, tried switching remote channels, but to no avail.
I do recall at some point the remote stopped working and I solved the problem by switching the remote from channel 1 to channel 2 which restored full service. I wonder whether this has something to do with it (switching back to channel 1 does nothing - no functions work).
Has anybody else on here come across such an issue or have any better ideas as to how to solve it? Thanks!
For devices without any physical user interface, eg tv’s and bd players, I always purchase a spare, original, remote asap……. not that this helps on this occasion. Perhaps a quick search on t’bay for a spare remote might be worth a try……?

Hi Richard - I think they ceased the updates many years ago, as (as you’re probably aware) Oppo no longer make DVD/BRPs, or support them, much to the annoyance of many.
My remote ceased to operate a while back. The handset seems OK vis I can see a red light against a mirror, but the player doesn’t respond. I’ve tried an IR receiver in the back (per the manual), but so far no success. If you get your’s going this way, please do tell how you did it.

Thanks Skep, I’ve been through all the AI steps already. I’ve even tried a Oneforall remote but it seems the player itself doesn’t recognise code/channel 1 any more and that’s the one that carries the region switch coding…
Two last possibilities then I’m out of my depth.

Thanks, have tried all of those. I can set the player manually via the menu to Channel 1 or 3 and then use the open-drawer Enter command to then force it back to Channel 2, but I can’t get it to do that for any other channel, hence it only wants to switch to channel 2.
Regarding the remote. Have you checked that it is producing an IR signal, by pointing the IR sender at your phones camera, and you should see a faint red light when you press any button? Presumably if it’s a button issue, you could try opening up the remote and cleaning it with IPA.
Yes, definitely producing a signal. The same issue exists with a OneforAll remote with all the same functions (which should automatically default to channel1), so I’m leaning towards a player fault.
a have an Electrocompaniet EMP3, which technically based on an OPPO BDP-103EU. Since around two months it is no longer possible to play european DVDs. Blu-rays are ok. The last firmware is from 2021 and i used it for years without any problems. No firmware-update since 2021.
I called a pepair shop and they told me, it is a problem with the a chip for the codes.
Do you know about these chips and what to do?
