Outrageous……

………beyond belief, Paul Rodgers is NOT in the rock’n’hall of fame.

I don’t think the Hall of fame of any type is important. Any committe led award or hall of fame is fuundamentally flawed.

It is how the artist in this case is viewed by the public that matters.

I have no idea if any of the individual artists or bands that are my favourites are members of a hall of fame and don’t care to know.

Seen like that yes, but does seem to be an omission.

I agree it is good fodder for youtubists and forums but I just shrug my shoulders.

Yeah, that for me too.

Very much a first world problem and, frankly, if one starts to compile a list of those who are not “in” then he wouldn’t even make the first 500 which tells you all you need to know about multiple aspects of the thing really. The list of absolutely foundational artists who are not “in” runs to about 250 last time I read about this in any depth.

I heard that Rodgers refused. True or false??

Now that is a dismissive term of complete nonsense on a forum like this! Any problems even remotely to do with recorded music, hifi, and probably most of whatever the vast majority of people on this forum own or do with their leisure time, are first world problems. So what? People can still feel peeved, hard done by, irritated, offended, etc, for themselves or for others, and feel it is appropriate to mention here - in this first world forum

Very true. Nevertheless sometimes it’s good to have a reminder.

Hadn’t heard that.

Come on now. These things are a comedy, based around judges that are just out of pampers, haven’t a clue what they are talking about, and silly web sites publish it as knowledgeable.

Paul Rodgers is clearly the greatest rock singer of all time in my eyes (I’m unbiased because I’m not a massive Free/Bad Co. man, but my God, Paul had the chops) and top ten in the eyes of nearly all rock fans.

I think not. It’s the exact opposite.

The nomination process is controlled by a small number of individuals who are not themselves musicians, such as Jann Wenner and Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their personal tastes rather than public opinion as a whole. Please clarify which one of those might be “in diapers”.

I believe Wenner was pulled in 2023.

A former member of the nominations board once commented that

"at one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren’t enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the [doo-wop]) groups being considered in favor of a ‘name’ artist …certain pioneering artists of the '50s and early '60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in '70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren’t in today.”

Bearing in mind the above, making a case for the likes of Rodgers is very difficult. Far from being some staggering omission it would actually just be more of the same.

A good lad with a fine voice.

None of my favorite artists are in the hall of fame.

Don’t care whether my faves are there. There are people who ought age people who ought not. Rodgers is a long way down that list.

When we’re talking rock music, he’s very near the top of my list. But all opinion.

It begs some questions: How big is the hall? (Limited capacity or infinite?) Are there defined qualifying requirements, e.g: Number of no. 1 hit singles? Number of different gold records? Number of songs banned by the BBC? Length of hair? Number of groupies voting? ……

.

I can send you some batteries for your hearing aids!!

Madonna is in the hall of fame. In some years will be Lady Gaga.
So it means that hall of fame is nothing, not significant of the real skillness of musicians.
The only interest is to induce more sellings.

Always good to read the whole thread.

At no point have I said I don’t like them or him. I simply believe that there are many many obvious omissions of far greater import which it would be appropriate to rectify long before he were to be considered.

I can send you some prescription glasses if you like :joy:

I’ve read that too.
From what I recall Mr Rogers was offered this accolade and was told that the Hall of Fame was like a museum of Rock artists and he replied that he didn’t want to be a museum piece. Or words to that effect. Guess a Google search will tell the story.
