Thank you, yes googled and that seems to settle it.
Both of those women are extremely talented recording artists. And Gaga is a great pianist and writer and made a fine career for herself by believing in herself when truly no one else did. She’s a phenominal talent, whether or not you enjoy the genre of her music.
Agree with the second half of your post but not the first.
This iteration of the “hall of fame” have very much corrupted what it ought to have been about but the key word is nevertheless fame. On that basis then both would be in albeit I personally think Gaga has the one great album whereas there’s a case for Madonna having two or three.
Sorry to disappoint you on this. All tastes, all different…if not it would be boring.
Not disappointing me!
I try to separate taste from talent. I believe that I can recognize talent behind performance that is not to my tastes. I dont own any Madonna or Gaga albums, for example. Not to my taste. But I do recognize the talent.
(There is a great video somewhere of Gaga playing solo piano and singing on the Howard Stern show a number of years ago. To me this video proves her talent. And it’s actually quite tasteful IMHO as well. The entire interview is well done and puts her in a very good light, again IMHO.)
We have then a different opinion on this. I recognise the talent and merits differently from you.
I don’t say these singers are devoided of talent. But hall of fame should go more to Aretha Franklin or Janis Joplin than Madonna, for me.
I was speaking more generally regarding how I differentiate talent from taste.
I really have no opinion as to who should or should not be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I recognize that the selection is not based on purely objective criteria, nor that that would be possible anyway. And I think it’s always easy to say, “Person XXX was more deserving than Person YYY.” (PS - All three of these musicians, Janis, Madonna, and Aretha, have been in the RnR Hall of Fame for several decades now. I would not kick any of them out if I had that power.)
But it’s only opinion, yours, mine, from the media, journalists….
I know, i should maybe finish my sentences by IMHO, but I generally don’t care to do it. Maybe I should.
