That’s an intriguing observation. I would like to know what speakers you have please?
I’ve only ever really convincingly achieved that effect with the large horn loaded speakers that we have now (Klipsch Forte III’s). This despite our current Moon/Chord electronics being far more modest than the much more expensive Naim electronics we owned in the past. I had IBL’s for most of that time (after Kans before). Excellent and as musical as those systems were they failed to achieve the vivid live feel that we now have, which is undoubtedly due to the horn loaded speakers.
By ‘live feel’ I don’t mean an accurate reproduction of a studio mix, the result of which often appears sanitised and polished. Rather the raw effect that one gets at a live event. Warts and all. Whether that’s amplified or acoustic music. Since one gets that effect with everything played, and nearly all of it is in fact studio recordings, one can justifiably say it isn’t accurate. But it sure is lots of fun and the closest I’ve ever felt to having the musicians there in the room with me.

I have always found early Naim speakers give you a live in the room sound. In my case SBLs.
I believe the Naim and early Linn speakers are better than most in this respect - at least in my experience. The Klipsch Forte III’s, being horn loaded in the mid and HF take things to the next level. If I hadn’t discovered the Klipsch’s though, and if Linn and Naim still made those great speakers (or if I still had mine) then that’s what I would be using. IMO they are still amongst the very best speakers ever made if musical communication is a priority for you.
