Quite.
Exemplified by the Naim page on Westan:
@Mike_S Probably Mike
Funny how it’s turned out - couple of years ago I didn’t have a streamer and wasn’t really into it
I purchased the NDX2 at a really good discounted price and got into it quite a bit but the NDX2 was holding me back somewhat for whatever reason
Once I heard the NSS 333 that was it for me - found what I wanted to hear and that’s just through the Nait 50
Naim aren’t listed as one of Westan’s brands on their web site. Maybe it’s changed again?
That’s just slackness Mike - email them and stick it to them
Sloppy
How weird…!!
Jeez….Theres not much hope, is there…!
SC
That’s been a great outcome for you. Are you running a LP12 with the Nait 50 too?
Some days I think I’ve over invested in my set up. There is a lot to be said for keeping things a bit more simple and modest.
Yep I’m running the LP 12 ARO through the Nait 50 also
It sounds so good I disposed of the SN3/HICAPDR
I’m with you Mike I’ve probably over invested maybe on the LP12 ARO up to keel level and Superline/Supercap level
But it does sound wonderful albeit with the Naim Armageddon PS still lots of black boxes
On the Goldie here…I’ve gone to the NC as well and not too worried about needing servicing for some time. LW in Sydney always make it easy to ship anyway. My prob of course is with the older units that need servicing. Hoping it’ll resolve with the parts supplier stepping up
I think I may be stretching the long-term ownership here…
Well here in sunny Perth, my currrent NAC/NAP combo (originally 32/Snaps/250) which I bought 43 years ago and recapped multiple times are still delightfully musical, though they have been upgraded in-chassis to a 32-5(72 cards) / HiCap(box swapped) / 250.
Having travelled & worked around the world for 40 years and visiting various high-end UK, HK, Tokyo and NYC audiophile dealers, the isolation of Perth living has tempered my upgraditis, which encouraged me to enjoy my original Naims.
In the last 5 years, I decided to cherry-pick Naim’s sweet-spot boxes and blind purchased the nDAC, Core, PS555DR, ND5xs2, DC1, NACA5 as each of these items had their unique outstanding sonic reputations (thanks to this forum and external reviews) that reduced my chance of buyer’s remorse.
I also bought a Nait 2, for a secondary system - just in case my primary amps have an extended outtage, I can easily swap in the Nait 2 to my primary system… It may well become my “retirement village” system
I can say that a recent (Oct 2024) ND5xs2 purchase through Surrounds in Nedlands, supplied by Westan was quick n easy… (thanks to the A2A price slashing).
So I feel that Naim is getting it’s presence in Oz re-established.
Jeez I sure hope
JLS repaired my NDX2 under warranty in mid 2024. They are now based on Rooks Road in Vermont (east Melbourne suburb for any non- Aussies following this). Service was very good.
Thanks for that info. I was led to believe that they were no longer doing Naim services/repairs
@NickofWimbledon
Linn got back to me. My new dealer is43 km away in a small town in the Wairarapa. I have to drive over the notorious Rimutaka ranges to get there. It is in residential back street and is only open by appointment. I suspect it will only have one staff member. It is crazy as the Real Music company is well staffed with experts. It is also in a central Wellington location with reasonable foot traffic and far more accessible to the 400,000 local population vs a sleepy hollow.
RM list the naim franchise 2 years ago with a resultant falling of a cliff of naim sales. Linn has drunk the corporate kool aid as well, with predictable demise of the brand in Australasia on the cards.Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
That looks like Sam from LinnHiFi in Wairarapa. He also used to sell Naim. He’s quite active on TM and I bought a used Fraim base from him. Is he the new distributor for Linn, he doesn’t have a retail network, so is he going to be the only seller now in NZ?
@Mike_S Like you I have bought some odds and ends from Sam. I do wonder whether he has the infrastructure to service the Wellington Linn owners. He’s always seemed to be a bit of a wheeler dealer and hobbyist. Time will tell.
Hmm, I hope these changes are manageable for the HiFi stores. Losing Naim and now Linn. Not great really for them or their clients who are heavily invested in those brands.
That’s very weird IDAK what is Linn doing
Nuts
