Sad news. I remember Wodehouse Playhouse (with John Alderton) and, of course, Shirley Valentine. Coincidentally, we had chips and egg for tea this evening.
Loved her as Mrs Gamp in ‘Dickensian’. Mrs H and I still imitate her ‘…a cheeky little gin?’ When one of us is trying to persuade the other that the sun has gone over the yardarm.

Shirley Valentine is not my usual type of movie, but Pauline absolutely got the character right, her acting was superb and I loved that film. Can’t imagine anyone else playing that role. She was of course brilliant in everything else she did.
By coincidence, one of the sitcom repeat channels was showing “No, Honestly” only a few days back, her and John Alderton as a married couple in art imitating life. She was good.
As an aside, about 20 years ago, through work, I met a lady whose real name was Shirley Valentine. After the film came out she was having the same conversations every time she met someone. I think she was getting fed up with it.
