I have a Naim Uniti Nova with Rega P3 and Rega MM MK5 phono preamp. I would like to know if I can replace the phono preamp with a vintage Pioneer SA706 amplifier that was my father’s, so that I can use it in some way.
Can this thing work and above all make sense in terms of audio quality?
You could connect to the phono input and then take tape out to the Nova. But why would you? The Rega phono stage is a perfect match for the TT and will almost certainly sound better.
Tony, Internet pictures suggest to me that your father’s amp is late seventies. The phono stage is potentially utterly beguiling with a cartridge such as a Rega R100.
But it seems likely your cartridge is more contemporary.
Only you can say whether the phonostage in the Pioneer SA706 is preferable to your Rega fono with your cartridge.

It would be nice to use your Dad’s amplifier.
Could you set this as a second system, for example; Wiim Mini as streamer, Wharfdale Diamond loudspeakers. At around £200, not too expensive, plus you could get secondhand on eBay or similar.
Maybe an option worth considering.

Good proposal, thanks
Just a question, just to make some use of the old amplifier
