Well, I can’t do that. The manual says that all the S/PDIF inputs will handle up to 192/24, but I’ve tried with two different streamers (Node 2i and new Cambridge MXN10) and the V1 will play hi res streams from both, until I try at 192/24, at which point there is no sound whatsoever. I can play the streams from the MXN10 via the internal DAC straight into my NAC 202, but the sound is not as good. Am I just wrong about the V1’s capabilities, or is this something that should work?
Do you have the latest firmware loaded?
Hmm…I think so, I reinstalled when I first bought it a few years ago, don’t think there’s been any update since, given that it’s discontinued, but I will check. Thanks, hadn’t thought of that.
Toslink is also a S/PDIF but often fails beyond 96. Keep to coax.
Yes, I’ve ordered a cable, because I did wonder about that. Thanks.
Yep, that’s the fella! Just swapped over the coax cable from my CD transport and it works just fine. Thanks very much. Sounds awesome too!
Indeed, I think many optical cables are limited to the normal Toslink limit (maybe spec?) of 96KHz, but my understanding is that good cables - well made with properly cut and polished ends, and possibly multicore, but not necessarily very expensive - can transmit 192KHz without issue. The benefit of optical is complete isolation of superimposed electrical noise.
VDH Optocoupler works fine at 192.
It is a spankingly good cable which blows the idea that all opticals sound the same out of the water!
