Please identify this Naim Integrated : Naim Nait XS or Naim Nait XS-2?

Hello,

Good day for all.

My friend want to sell his Naim integrated. But I’d rather confused

Is this Naim is Naim nait XS-1/or usually we call XS or Naim nait XS-2 ?

Because on printed box named XS-2 but on the back cover of this unit named only XS (not XS-2 like the box), both unit and box has the same serial number.

picture will explain more ..

thank you

If the serial number on the box is the same as the serial number on the unit, then it is an xs-2. Naim did not put xs-2 on the unit itself.

Absolutely if the box serial number matches the unit then it’s a Nait XS2

Thank you for explanation, but I also found that there’s XS-2 printed on the back panel as follows :

so that unit also XS-2 too?

so what’s the differences ?

It can get confusing as there was an XS-2 which was later followed by an XS2 (and then XS3)…

IIRC the XS-2 was a later XS with a better fascia (anodised alloy rather than the zinc magnesium one), whereas the XS2 was a revised new model.

only syntax written, XS2 or XS-2 same point..

This thread explains a bit more

I can’t help there as my xs-2 is not marked.

NAIM NAIT-XS-2 amp preamp: exceptional musical intelligibility and unerring rhythms.

More powerful than its predecessor, the XS-2 benefits from many improvements: ceramic heatsink, internal topology supposed to optimize the signal path, custom-made capacitors. The 380 VA transformer benefits from five separate windings for a more stable current. The aluminium chassis guarantees excellent inertia and a noticeable reduction of parasitic vibrations. A configuration dear to Naim, the six analog inputs are available in RCA and DIN versions, reserved for the combination of other devices of the brand. In addition, there is a minijack input on the front, a pre-DIN input and a DIN pre-out output.

The restitution is probably a little less suave and supple than that of the Creek or the Heed. Here, musical sense is privileged - with infinite talent. The timbres are flawless and the rhythms of an astonishing, unique intelligibility and responsiveness. The nervous system of music is made sensitive, in all its acuteness.

XS

• Type: Built-in amp-preamp.

• Power: 2 x 60 watts.

• Remote Control: Yes.

• Phono input: no.

• Headphone jack: no.

If my memory serves, the XS2 has a 1/4” (6.3mm) headphone socket but the XS and XS-2 have a 1/8” (3.5mm) socket which is actually AUX 1 input

The serial number would suggest a 2011 build and therefore a late model XS (aka XS-2)?

Certainly tallies with what i remember of my XS2, full fat headphone socket.

Indeed it’s a first gen XS. Mine is also like that, bought new in early 2013 and mentioning “XS-2” in the box.

No.. its an XS-2.

xs-2.

Once opened, and despite a rather similar overall look, the differences between the two models are well and truly there. What immediately jumps out at you is right in the middle of the main map. We can clearly see 4 transistors with integrated mini coolers and two associated capacities (Elna 1000 μF), connected by a cable to the headphone output newly installed on this model. On the other hand, Naim Audio announces a more generous power supply, a transformer in fact, but looking at them, we might doubt it. It is only by looking at the references of the latter that it becomes clear that a change has been made. The XS 2 has the reference: Talema 93592 while the SX’s: Talema 93353 and looking at the output consumption, we go from 290 VA for the old model to 350 VA for the latest addition. On the other hand, nothing seems to have changed in terms of capacitances with still 4 Kemet capacitors of 10,000μF and 3 smaller capacitors of 4,700μF. But when you open both devices, something also strikes the eyes. The metal bar housing the 4 Sanken output transistors, normally coated with white insulation, is immaculate with the XS 2. Obviously and in line with what is announced, a new ceramic-based insulator is being used on new output transistors. Instead of the 2SC2922 Sanken, there are four smaller C3519 models still of Sanken origin but, according to Naim Audio, these new transistors are pretty much identical to the old ones. We can see them all the better because the two small horizontal support bars pressing the old transistors to the heatsink have simply disappeared. That’s for the most part, what we were able to discover the two devices open in front of us as they are in the photo in the same article.

I believe the xs-2 is a better chassis and casing than the cheaper XS. Other than that the internals are much the same. 60w per channel and not the same as the 70 w per channel of the later xs2. Others seem to think the xs-2 may have the 70w.

Thank you, for all detail explanation..I will explore later. I know, It’s rather confusing call it XS or XS2, but I believe that unit and box is match and origin from Naim, indeed. This’s the important one. once again, many thanks..

At risk of repeating any of the above, my understanding of the XS model chronology is:

Original XS = 60 WPC

XS-2 = effectively the original XS with a new facia. 60 WPC. From my eBay searches when looking at amps some are labelled XS-2 on the box. The rear label appears to be XS only.

XS2 = 70 WPC and a new design released for Naim’s 40th anniversary (along with the Nait 5si and Supernait 2). Confusingly, the boxes for these appear to say XS-2 like the previous model. It is no wonder that it can be confusing!

XS3 = 70 WPC and a new design again.

Rear panel is marked Nait XS.

(I had two of them, a very nice model. )

Nait XS-2 had brushed alloy fascia but was a Nait XS. XS-2 was marked as Nait XS on back. The fascia was available separately for those who had bought an earlier XS but wanted the more upmarket look.

Nait XS 2 was a later model. XS 3 was a later model again.
