PMC Prophecy line

For those who are interested, PMC are releasing a new range of speakers. As I understand it, they will be positioned between the Prodigy and 25i ranges. Information is on their website.

Clearly beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I think they’re some of the ugliest speakers I’ve ever had the misfortune of laying eyes on!

Agree. Hope they have some grills lined up for them.

They look better in a different finish, and with grilles on (see the PMC website).

Hmmm, in the dark/black finish with the grilles on they look tolerable, but only because you can’t see the speaker anymore. It comes to something when the best looking part of the speaker is the grille (which I really quite like - grey material with a hint of tweed about it)!
The tweeter and midrange grilles are ugly, the separate looking port arrangement at the base of the speaker makes it look like an afterthought and as for the tweeter/midrange surround, what is that about?!
I quite like the slender profile, but beyond that and the grille, I’m clutching!

Hmmm was there really a big enough gap between Prodigy and Twenty5i that They needed another range?

Unless… Twenty5i and Fact are both on their way out and going to be replaced by a single new range closer to Fact.

Why do two of them look like they’re sucking on a particularly sour lemon?

I like the way the Laminair grille incorporates into the case…but I do find the drivers visually challenging in most of the models…Black probably works the best overall, but I’m not a huge fan of black speakers…IMO, the Prodigy is actually a better looking speaker, especially in the flesh (which surprised me).

Browsed through the brochure (they look a happy couple!)…Look quite a large (depth wise) speaker, especially the ‘bookshelf’…

I do agree with @feeling_zen – why cram another range into that end of their lineup…I can’t see them killing off the Twenty range, it’s been successful for a long time and ticks lots of boxes at its price point…It would make more sense to replace Prodigy, but then it’s so new and the entry point…Prophecy seems to list at the beginning on the website menu, to me suggesting the base range, but it may simply be the most recent…

Again, no White finish offered, which is a shame I think – Prodigy was just the single Black finish, they seem to have discontinued it in Twenty and now just three veneer finishes in this new Prophecy….Leaves just Fact (still, I think) if you can afford and accommodate them and of course the CI range (which they obviously must have plenty of white paint for…!)…

Strange they’ve offered a Centre speaker, yet no Sub in the range, leaving the visually mismatched (not to mention relatively expensive) Twenty sub as your only option from PMC….though, judging from the glossy product images, perhaps their intention is for a 3.0 ‘lifestyle’ AV setup….

Yes, I find Prophecy 5 considerably more attractive than the others - the midrange on both the 7 and 9 looks very odd to me. The stand mount looks incongruous with the black vent (I don’t mind it at the bottom of the floorstanders).

The 25 range has crept (leapt) up in price over the years so, based purely on driver compliment, there is space between Prodigy and 25i financially. Whether there is acoustically, I don’t know. I’d be very surprised if 25 is up for replacement, especially with the recently introduced active versions and active module upgrades.

I think they look great. Bass / mid drivers look very similar to the ones used in the Fact range. According to Moorgate Acoustics they’re a replacement for the Twenty5 series.

Just doesn’t make sense, to me. As @AlexP said, especially after just introducing the Active upgrades for the Twenty series (except the 26 I believe)….

Hahaha. I saw a puckered bum. And now I can’t unsee it.

I would completely agree. There doesn’t seem to be anything official on the PMC website either about it being a replacement for Twenty.5 series

I wonder why they have gone back to straight laminar vents when they made great play about the curved F1 inspired vents.

F1 regulations are changing in ‘26…!

It looks as though the Prophecy 1 is actually £300 more expensive than the current twenty5.21i, so they have to be a replacement. As others have said, it’s strange to do this so soon after releasing the active upgrade, which was only about seven months ago.

The speakers look pretty good with their grilles on.

I don’t think they use Laminair on the high end pro audio stuff either.

I had read somewhere that it only worked in a lab and required absolute control over the shape and even dust would cause the airflow model to misbehave. This in the context of F1 not audio. Hence it was too reliant on variables outside anyone’s control to be useful in the field.

Very curious then.
I wonder if they might take the Twenty range as Active only going forwards (with retro upgrades available for current/old passive owners)…?
Time will tell if the rear panel of this new Prophecy range is removable and thus suggest future active options like the current Twenty….

I’m still not convinced they’ll kill the Twenty any time soon.
They also need a subwoofer in the domestic range…

This is the back of the Prophecy 1….

I didn’t think I had my glasses on, but I do…!

Hmm, doesn’t appear to have much scope for removal then – can’t tell 100%, but terminal mounts all seem to be be one piece base with the front vent….
