Poll: what are the music genres that would describe the majority of music to which you listen?

Prompted by a current specific query about genre people prefer with a specific pair of speakers, I thought a wider indication would be of interest.

The challenge of course is how far it is reasonable to go in assigning genres, with pros snd cons either way. I have kept it pretty broad for this indication. If a genre to which you listen for 20% of more people of the time please select “other” and give details. For crossover genres please assign whatever you think is dominant.

For now please indicate genres out of the list for which you listen a substantial amount - say at least about 20% of your listening time

  • Classical
  • Pop
  • Soul
  • Rock
  • Prog
  • Jazz
  • Opera
  • Blues
  • Folk (or local equivalent)
  • Other (please identify)

I voted for 4 of the topics but I do listen to the others occasionally. It’s a problem when someone wants to group you into a genre.

This is really hard to answer since it varies quite a lot and I do not have any long term actual data available. However, in recent time the dominant genres have been classical and jazz (rock always is lurking in the background).

I just don’t use any genre selection

No Listing for Country Western, Bluegrass, Irish, African Desert, Middle Eastern, Indian? Very limited poll…

Life is Sweet and so is Music! …all of it…

Well I listen to all of them as well as so-called world music and psytrance, progressive trance and chillout. Classical is prevalent

Indeed limited number of genres, as I stated, but the difficulty is where to stop! The intent is for broad indications. If ‘other’ turns out to be a large amount, and people indicate the associated genre(s), I can always do another poll to tease out.

Not trying to do that, but just an overall picture of forum listening preferences.

I wasn’t expecting data analysis, but broad feeling!

Nor do I other than a handful for convenience of filing, and not needed at all for the briad categories of the poll.

To make you happy @Innocent_Bystander i put down prog.

‘world’ is a contentious genre but it would at least allow inclusion of many excluded musics

Indeed, but I can’t change the poll after creation. As already stated I can always fo s as another poll to tease out the ‘others’ if it is clear from its size that there is a lot hidden there, though it does require indications of genres to include or the same will happen.

I understood that you didn’t  This poll just gave me the idea that it would be nice to know myself. Some people keep some kind of listening journal but I have never managed to start one.

On completion of the pole, what’s the chances that Naim take the preferred top choices and make a product tuned to those types of music. Will the concept of a straight wire with gain be lost forever.

Voted for 5, “Other” being weird sh*t like Heilung.

Perhaps rather sad to reflect that my preferences have not changed much in over 50 years other than I now listen to more Jazz but only at the less “chin stroking” end of that spectrum.

Given the fabled “Naim sound”, and that it is said to have changed over time, it would seem it doesn’t yet exist, at least not in Naim world other than possibly Statement(?)…

Why sad? I think it is sad or at least odd when peoples tastes change significantly, so as to not like music now that they did as a young adult.
