We did this on Christmas Eve as we are going to see my father-in-law today. Deciding to open our gifts whilst a bit pissed at the dinner table was fun but did have a downside in that we managed to set fire to some tissue paper wrapping that nearly got out of control. My son manfully leapt to his feet and stamped it out…ruining the soles of his new slipper socks in the process.
My other half is German and so we always open presents On Christmas Eve after a few drinks and because there are no little people around anymore we get a lay in Christmas morning.
Also we’ve spent the last two Christmas holidays in Spain and they also celebrate Christmas Eve more but don’t open presents until the 6th of January the Three Kings festival.
The oven decided to conk out yesterday so we’re having a spit roast chicken bought yesterday fried potatoes, mashed carrot and swede and Christmas Pud luckily we will be nicely drunk.
Happy Christmas all.
Traditional turkey for us but having to wait until early evening instead of the usual early afternoon because Acoustica the Chester dealership are delivering my new (to me) SL2s mid afternoon today. Ultimately it will mean I’ll be stuffed all evening and unable to consume far too much wine and be able to wake up in a far better state than I usually do on Boxing day
I was always taught ‘mise en place’ was important when cooking.
So here we are.Festive dinner for one elderly isolationist.
Bubble having been burst because of daughter’s partner being very front line at hospital.
Yup - Pete (who worked with Geoff for many years) took over about five months ago. Ed and Ross (two brothers) have joined up with Pete. Geoff has apparently bought a place in Portugal and some fancy cars
My son did our starter and oldest daughter the pudding. The younger daughter is vegan so cooked her own variation where meat/dairy alternatives were required.
Late start (as ever), whole lamb shoulder and a pre-packed uninspiring turkey breast in a foil tin on the way. Ahead of the game on the booze unfortunately so it probably matters not what we have!
