Seems Naim supply powerline lites with their equipment, I am finding that mainly supply 1mtr lead but also finding 2mtr powerline lites.
The 2mtrs cable has exact same labellelling/writing on it as 1mtr
Also few for sale on the bay 1mtr and 2mtr lengths.
Having read topics (now closed) regards shortening said cable, main consensus was it is specific length for reason to do with sound quality.
I would hazard guess the main reason is convenience, not everyone’s system is going be right up close to plug sockets and metre or 2 metres gives some leeway as to positioning system table and all equipment.
Saying this makes me think length is not for sound quality and shortening a 2mtr to 1mtr isn’t going cause a SQ effect, especially as 2mtr lite and 1mtr lite they do are the same cable..
Don’t know about Powerline Lites but I recall from many years (ie. decades) ago that it was frowned upon to shorten the mains leads that Naim supplied as this would adversely affect sound quality. Powerline Lites are just the standard leads with the special plug I believe so perhaps the same still applies? Or has this gone the way of single speaker dem rooms and something that apparently no longer matters?!
I can only see reference to a 2m PL looking around on the internet and Naim’s website doesn’t make reference to alternative lengths being avaialble. In any case I wouldn’t personally shorten any pre-assembled mains cable but particularly a Powerline or Powerline Lite which would entail messing with the special mains plug or cutting off the moulded IEC (on a Lite) and fitting an alternative. It’s not good practice in my view.
The powerline lite plug dismantles like normal MK plug, only difference is the cord grip which is separate part external to the plug (but attached) so if cable shortened and ends soldered as per original tbe only difference will be the length..
Obviously it’s your call - it’s your property and you’re free to do as you please. Personally I wouldn’t tamper with a pre-built specialist mains cable no matter what - and I’m completely comfortable with wiring up plugs etc. As I said I don’t think it’s good practice but if it’s what you want then go for it. I don’t think the Naim police will be knocking at your door!
Where have you seen 1 metre cables claiming to be Naim’s? They only supply them in 2m lengths. Ebay is full of fakes and false or misleading claims from sellers, so I’m guessing that’s where you’ve seen these?
You can mention things like amazon and eBay, and specifically I think it’s Ok to mention sites where the product might be fake - just keep the full link out. E.g. you might say its on eBay under the product name “XYZ” then it can be found and potentially reported
