Powerline

My 552DR is an early example serviced / DR’d in 2019 but supplied with Powerline Lite, the 500 came with a Powerline.
Tonight after the wife called it a night by some miracle a new Powerline found its way onto the 552 PSU, I’m struck with the level of extra detail this has brought why did I wait!!

Surprising. I thought the 552 like the 500DR would come with a Powerline.

I think the Powerline was supplied as standard 2012 onwards.

Thanks for the info. Anyway happy you like the Powerline! It took me awhile to source mine 2nd hand but so worthwhile.

The addition of the Powerline on the 552 has made a lovely improvement appears to have more depth and bass, job done I think.

Yes - I highly underestimated the power of powerline as well

PLs for us had a similar effect to putting the system on Fraim. A kind of cleaning up of the sound. A simplification without loss of detail. The phrase “less is more” comes to mind.

We put Powerlines on our Plixir P/S ( feeding a Melco N100) and on our Moon amp and CD player. They are plugged into a Chord S6 block with a Power Array. We can’t easily fit a dedicated mains supply so the idea is to maximise the quality of the feed from a normal socket to the hi-fi.

The effect of the Powerlines was far from subtle. Dynamics, clarity, immediacy, timing etc. all took a significant step up from the previous Chord C power cables (these are excellent by the way - and outstanding value at just £60, but they are now discontinued). Also the bass acquired a lovely ‘bouncy’ quality that really drives the music forwards.

In terms of audiophile power cords the Powerline is fairly cheap but is exceptional value IMO. Certainly the Powerlines are key players in our set-up.

I have mine Powerline on my Nait 50, I use Chord Shawline on my CD player and UnitiQute , the uplift is amazing.

I am very sold on the idea of high quality power cords , indeed the biggest uplift came when I added an Ecosse Big Orange ( figure of eight ) to my Sky Box and I had a noticeable uplift in both sound and vision

I use Chord Epic on my S6 block. I have Chord cables throughout my system and I originally wanted Chord mains cables from the S6 block to the equipment. However because they are so stiff it would have made cable dressing a nightmare - hence I needed to look for more flexible alternatives.

Powerlines were perhaps not the obvious choice for a non-Naim system but they are reasonably priced, long and very flexible. As it turned out I was so impressed that I would use one to connect the S6 block to the wall socket if I could. Alas, the S6 has a 16A IEC inlet so the Powerline won’t fit!

My only quibble about the Full Fat Powerline is it’s tight fit , on a pound per sound basis it is excellent value

I use powerline on 555ps dr (for nd555) and on PN switch.
Also one on nait 50 and qute 2.
Let the Igel plus pass by. This could have brought the main system to full powerline.
It is currently on normal Igel.
Why? Because I like it as it is very much :grinning:
Too bad that for hdx cable is not long enough - cabling is very difficult as there is less space behind my racks.

When i put a powerline into my Armageddon WOW. Talk about turbo charged!
A friend put one into his overhead projector, colours more vibrant and sharp.
Probably one of the best vfm Naim black magic thingy’s you can own.

I use a Powerline on my HG ultrasonic cleaner. Unbelievable, the LPs have never been so clean. Night and day. And the vinyl is ultra black.

Which was an issue for the picture discs I assume. :grinning:

I hate picture disks ! If only they could sound quiet. Saying that, i do have a Kajagoogoo picture disk that is quiet and as good as it gets.

I’ve got a kajagoogoo picture disc but I’m too shy to talk about it.

Joking aside, I believe you could be onto something. I have experimented with using a Powerline to a spare Atlas Power Block into which I plugged my electric shaver for charging. This resulted in a much more dynamic, closer and enjoyable shave. I have no idea of the physical mechanisms involved but I postulate that the Powerline allowed the optimal arrangement of electrons within the shaver battery - thus extending its performance beyond what would normally be possible.

The possibilities for experimentation are endless here. Next season I will definitely be charging the lawnmower batteries via a Powerline. In the meantime experiments are under way with the coffee machine.

Some will no doubt ridicule this post as fantasy - and I almost didn’t bother as `I know the sort of dismissive response that one can get. To those people I say simply - don’t knock it unless you’ve tried it.
