Premier League 2024-2025

Fair play to Spurs, they have zero interest in game management so we always get a game for neutrals.

Just a normal game for our lot. Sometimes prime Real Madrid, sometimes prime Sunday League - all in the same game.

Sometimes 100% committed, sometimes half-arsed.

Sometimes use their brains, sometimes not.

I’m ready for it every game

I think most Foxes fans will be pleased with this. Time will tell.

Time to get Dewsbury-Hall back from Chelsea.

An enjoyable romp last night.

Southampton look fine going forwards, but definitely nervous at the back. But they definitely had more fight than us and were well worth the draw.

The disallowed goal was strange (understatement of the season). The VAR check was about 5 minutes (seemed longer), and I genuinely think that, if a decision can’t be made inside a minute or two, then the on field decision should stand. However, that’s where things get weird on this one.

The on field decision was actually a disallowed goal, but with the latest late raising of the Lino’s flag I’ve ever seen. So the on field decision was actually “goal” followed by “no goal” what felt like a couple of minutes later. If that hadn’t happened, then the on field decision would have been goal, and not sure the VAR check would have then overruled the goal. Strange.

All in all though, if you play like you did last night, you’re definitely in the fight for survival, and can then build from there

I agree, @SiBrighton. A draw was probably fair. Brighton were on top in the first half and should have been more clinical in their finishing, while Southampton showed much more spirit and purpose in the second half. The VAR check was overly protracted. I’m not sure it should have been ruled out but, as you say, unless the VAR check quickly shows an obvious error, then the on-field decision should prevail.

Thanks, Si. I listened on the radio and last night I was beyond upset about it.

Putting aside the thought that my team might have won, the game should be about scoring goals. So if it could not be decided with, say, 90 secs worth of VAR, then goal. At least, that’s what I thought when I got up this morning.

I guess the flip side is that your goal scorer (number 4?) could easily have had a second yellow before he scored. So might have escaped one there (he was eventually subbed as he was definitely a bit too fired up :joy:).

Draw was a fair result given we were best team in the first half and you guys were in the second. I reckon you’ll gain some good momentum from the game

Would be interesting if at some level of football they could trial a few games with no off-side.

Dangerous to say what works in one sport will always work in another, but there’s no offside in Hockey, so does make me wonder

I know it was brought in to stop goal hanging, but perhaps there could be other options that could work. No idea what they might be !

It’s goal-laggin’ oop North, lad

:joy::wink:

I should add that this season, by leaving early (or in one case enjoying pub time with wife too much to even go to a 5.30 kick off game) Brighton have turned around a 2nil deficit to Spurs, and beaten Man City.

At the same time, staying to the end of these matches, I’ve seen us drop points (from winning positions) against Forest, Wolves and Southampton

On this basis myself and football buddy have decided to “take one for the team” and are going to leave each home game at half time for the rest of the season :grinning::beer::beer:

Just back from Palace v the Toon at Selhurst. A pretty low quality game although Newcastle weren’t as bad as we were. Until the 94th minute I was reflecting on the irony of the defender we didn’t sell to them in the transfer window scoring an OG for them. And then in the 94th minute - a brilliant header from Munoz ( to redeem himself from a dreadful goal opportunity squandered in the first half)!

Kev, WTF…

I still can’t work out the Toon, or indeed the whole premier league, this season.

Two great results before the International break and then two poor performances after it. Despite probably being the better side (but that isn’t saying much), we had to rely on a superb Dan Burn block to keep the game at 1:0 for so long - not a single shot on target is woeful and it was worrying to see Isak go off with a knock early on.

And yet despite all that, we were only 2 minutes away from being 2 points of second in the table.

And to top it all, I switch the TV half way through the West Ham game to see its 5-2 at half time to Arsenal. Crazy weekend. Lets hope it continues with a cracker of game tomorrow Liverpool vs Man City

Apart from a mad 10 minutes where we switched off we totally dominated West Ham again that’s 11 goals in two visits to their ground this year.

Even though West Ham’s second came from a ridiculous but typical Anthony Taylor free kick the resulting goal was so good and came so soon after their first that it sparked West Ham into life for a bit and they tried to bully us for the rest of the first half unfortunately for them though all that came of it was another Arsenal penalty after West Ham’s keeper and ex Arsenal player Lukas Fabianski took out Gabriel with a cracking straight right.

So after a brilliantly exciting first half the game drifted into dullness during a second half that produced nothing noteworthy from either side. A draw or home loss up at both Stamford Bridge and Anfield tomorrow will round off an almost perfect week.

Were you there Bob?

They’ve been missing Odegaard Bob. Great player.

No unfortunately I was not Andy tickets are even more difficult to get this season the new ballot system just isn’t working out for me and the prices quoted online are ridiculous, still I’m enjoying watching the Arsenal from the comfort of my own armchair whilst drinking my own choice of beer or stout and from a glass not a plastic bottle.

What I really don’t miss are those horrible journeys to and from the Emirates packed like sardines into those tube trains. Hopefully if and when the proposed redevelopment of the stadium takes place with the addition of another 20,000 seats London Transport along with the club will improve services.

Yes and it means that Arteta doesn’t feel forced into making complicated tactical changes to try and replace him. It is mine and every Arsenal fan’s hope that the necessary slow integration of Ethan Nwaneri will be at a point where he can directly replace Martin Odegaard should it happen again.

Ethan is a super young midfielder and an attack that contains him, Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka could be something very special.
