Why does nobody question City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern both Chelsea and Man U back in the day of having 2 or even 3 staring 11 quality players in the same position yet Arsenal it’s as if they are trying to reinvent the wheel.
Eze was the main man at Palace and he came to Arsenal spent lots of time on the bench did he whinge no he collected his Premier League medal and was happy is happy.
If you are lucky and go deep into every competition you enter you need players of similar quality to share the load. Zubimendi for instance look like he’d played in the Premier League his whole career until February when the work load got the better of him and he died on his feet.
Well we are certainly going to be unpredictable at the start of the season. In some ways I am quite excited. We were definitely stale and predictable at the end of last season, who knows how we will line up in 3 weeks time.
As a long time Man Utd supporter, I am actually quite pleased we have not so far been drawn into paying stupid money for what on the whole are quality players - been there, done that.
I am only speculating, but it seems that we have our targets and are prepared to pay what we believe is a fair price. I am sure if a great opportunity came up, we would pay the money. Perhaps this is just an example of a year of caution for us in this window with a view to buiding for the future. To be fair, I think Arsenal have shown the model over the last 2-3 years.
For all the talk of our midfield needs, if Bruno stays fit as he normally does, we have Mainoo, Tielemans, Mount and Santos for two slots and a number of young players - including the Fletcher twins - who we will want to develop.
If the season doesn’t go well, I am sure there will be many people tracing it back to this window. Could be ‘95 all over again!
Well, Chelsea doing lots of trading but, ironically, I hear lots of talk that a number of our fresh crop of academy players are the real deal, over and above the merely quite decent.
You did say he’d walk straight into the side rather than he’ll move you towards 2 or 3 quality players for each position? What interests me, as someone who’s never criticised Gooners or Arteta, is why you feel the need to rub the Geordies up the wrong way and assume everyone else sees the Gooners in the same way as wuggedwoy? It’s a bit like the bloke who lights his cigars with £50 notes. The rest of us are on roll ups and don’t need it rubbing in our faces. Real Madrid of course have won 15 European Cups, why would we question their strategy. They’re as far ahead of you as you are ahead of most of English football.
I just question you Bob, as you are not an Arsenal supporter, following the team from the TV/your keyboard. I’m not having a pop, just dealing in facts.

They’ve got a chance Jamie. It’s all down to Alonso and how good he is; I have no real opinion on him. I do think that Chelsea are the best team/squad in the league who don’t have European football next season, and that may be a key factor.
Well, he clearly has respect of the team on the tour and I guess the age and talent pool is more diverse now.
Still need a proper keep mind. And then move on about half a dozen from midfield and defence.
Still think Enzo and perhaps Barco (if he plays) will get a hard time, possibly from Chelsea fans..!

Trafford medical complete. Statement signing & the one every lufc supporter I know and see on social media wanted. Fair to say there’s been some nervousness about due to delay, caused I think by Trafford being on holiday after the World Cup. I’m pleased.
Will help to some degree with the style of football Farke wants to play but he’s not an upgrade as a keeper and the reasons he keeps moving on are clear enough.
Interesting for me as I’ve never thought Farke was a PL level manager. The argument was always that he only took Norwich down twice because he’d not the resources. I’ve always thought his tactical set up was flawed and set his teams up for failure far too much. As he continues to quietly be resourced at Leeds it will be interesting to see if he can get the team above halfway.
My first recollection of you, Mike, was telling us Farke always played 2 attacking midfielders. This at a time he was playing 2 defensive mids. Next you told us Farke couldn’t adapt to the EPL (but the Ipswich manager could. Plain to see what happened there). Now for a second time you tell us the bloke with the second best shot stopping stats in the EPL last season isn’t an upgrade on what we had. I realise in replying you’ll drag out something you read somewhere to (attempt) to prove you were right all along. While you’re doing that I’ll be enjoying the prospect of our new signing. The Norwich fans get Farke, of course.

So, with the exception of his two years at Burnley, and including loans, I would say he’s pretty much been a Manchester City player since the age of 12.
