Price Rise Sept 22

It’s easy to suck up the Naim prices then. Your heating is cheap, property is cheaper. We can’t have it all ways and it’s better to forego an upgrade than die in a freezing cold flat because you are too scared to turn on the heating.

I just ab out talked myself into the Heed Phono stage when I bought my Aria - I think the Synergy with the P8/Apheta nudged it but it was an absolutely fantastic quality piece of kit… if I was starting from scratch the Heed’s would be definitely on the audition list. They look pretty classy too

I see the 300 DR finally sold on TM just now.

I think those freezing in an unheated flats probably aren’t Naims (or weren’t) customer base or target market. However you do make a good point that there’s far more pressing issues than price rises in luxury goods.

Indeed so. Naim’s price increases are a problem for a very small minority.

That’s very impressive for a solar system. Are you a long way north with lots of sun and a large solar array?

I think the new generation line Naim products are competitive, and even with the price increases could still stay so.
As for the Classic series, hm their pricing (with some exceptions such as e.g. the Supernait) just don’t make sense any more and Naim is pricing themselves out practically everywhere, not sure how many new customers they have these days, probably more milking the old chronic upgraditis stricken boys around here while they still can until the next generation has taken over.
Btw I do think the Supernait is still great, great value and for all the mentioned good amps Rega (or others) do at this level, from what I’ve heard, at dealers admittedly, including the Osiris, I would still have the SN3 signature unless I have difficult speakers or need more power.

Sorry but this is not funny really. Just glad that I am not part of that group.

Crikey. I’d purposely turn everything off and boycott the whole lot, including the HiFi. My current electricity bill is about £20/30 a fortnight. Gas is around £20 per month…and that’s all Pay As You Go. System turned on 24/7. I kid you not. Something is very wrong if you’re being charged anywhere near those prices.

They may not be now but the way things are going that may sound relatively cheap in the not to distant future alas.

Life goes on, and folks will just carry on as is usual, like they are now. I’ve cut back on the real things worth doing, like giving up smoking, stopping drinking alcohol and completely cut out all take-away food.

Precisely that, whilst these systems we cherish remain a luxury by most peoples standards, it
brings a lot of relief and pleasure and like you’d I’d gladly give up most things before that!

Yes, we are in cairns. Never have to use any heating. Windows with security screens open all winter. LED lighting all round. We try to use the washing machine and dishwasher in the day only, and a uniti Nova that goes into standby.:grinning:

But does the BoE inflation calculator mainly apply to/reflect hifi (niche luxury goods) or mainly to staples and general commodities?

Is Naim’s long term price inflation rate lower, the same or higher than other (UK) hifi brands?

I’m going to take your first question as quasi-rhetorical, since the answer is probably obvious.

As for the second, I’m afraid I haven’t got the time nor access to enough data to furnish you with an answer. You may wish to have a go at gathering and analysing some data yourself.

By the time that task reaches the top of my workstack I will be dead.

Hifi is more of an art than a science and so is pricing it.

IIRC that’s been raised before and the answer is that it’s in line with other manus.

If it was materially above then Naim would be an outlier on pricing/value, which would have made them uncompetitive in the marketplace.

Naim have never been afraid to ask more when it’s needed (inflation, increased costs etc…), hence why there has always been an annual revision. Unless you can find ever increasing efficiencies (difficult at this specialist level with limited numbers made and so much handmade in the UK by skilled human input) to not do so will eventually kill your business. Which might also partly explain why Naim are still in business whereas many others are no longer around.

So it’s now 22 Sept. Has the resale value of my system shot up this morning?
