Problems Displaying .m3u Playlists

I decided to switch to server-side (.m3u) playlists to get around the problems that I was having with playlists created in the Naim app. I’m creating the playlists in MP3Tag on a Mac and exporting them to my Music folder.

However, playlists will start out in Track List view, as you’d expect, but then switch spontaneously to ‘Album Cover’ view. In this view, the playlist won’t advance to the next track.

The problems that I’m having seem to be related to the Naim app, rather than MinimServer. I noticed that a Scott Walker playlist that I’d created had changed from Track List view to the Album Cover view. The only change I’d made was adding another playlist. The newly-added playlist (Led Zeppelin) was displaying in Track List view as expected:

OK, wrong Playlist title and artwork, but I can live with that… Now, to check, I added another playlist aaaand…

The Led Zeppelin playlist has switched to Album Cover view! It seems that it’s adding a new playlist that’s causing the switch from Track List view to Album Cover view in the other playlists…

To check this, I looked in the WiiM Home app (my WiiM Pro is connected to the same NAS running MinimServer as the NDS, then digital out from the WiiM Pro into the NDS DAC).

All playlists are displaying perfectly. So the problem would seem to be with the Naim app… Does anyone have any idea what’s going on here…?

This may not be it, but I recall when I was playing around with my automated scripts (I export my iTunes library then run scripts to convert them to be used elsewhere), I had some issues with Playlists, which was resolved by changing the extension to .m3u8. The problem was relating to certain characters like £ and & in song titles, and this resolved that issue

@GadgetMan Sorry – should have said that the extension is actually.m3u8 (it’s got to do with the files using UTF-8 encoding)… weird that the playlists display perfectly in the WiiM Home app…

Clutching at straws possisbly, as well as trying to recall my previous issues and attempted fixes

  1. I remember that I had to restart Asset (equiv to your minimserver) on my Synology to pick up new playlists - so perhaps try that.

  2. another thing I tried when getting some inconsistent results in testing, led me to run “Other Settings/Clear Image Cache” - this also had a positive effect (assuming NDS has this setting)
