I’ve changed my router which has changed the base IP address from 192.168.0.1 to 10.0.0.1. Is there an easy way of changing the Qb’s IP address without doing a hard reset on the Qb and re-running the setup procedure?
You could change the LAN range of the router to match your old router.
Both IP addresses you’ve mentioned are private IP addresses.
The network address will be determined by your dhcp server on your router. Those are valid RFC1918 addresses which are private network addresses.
Just check everything else maps the same subnet, and power cycle your Qb… I assume you have let the Qb operate in default dhcp mode. It should sort itself on its own with 24 hours.
just checking, do you also have a separate mesh device, if so what mesh and what router do you have?
No, it’s only a small house, I don’t have a mesh.
Great, that simplifies things. So did you configure the QB with a hard coded IP address before, and that is why it isnt working?
I’m guessing he did as he hasn’t mentioned his 333.
No - I think the problem is around my poor understanding of networking. If I understand correctly, I just need to set the SSID of the new router to be the same as the old router, then DHCP will set the new IP address of the Qb automatically?
(My 333 is hard wired and works fine on the new router).
So your Wi-Fi and hard wired use different network addresses ?
Not sure - I think they’re both in the 10.0.0.x range of the new router?
That should work. It’s what I do each time o get a new router
Yes exactly right…
Yes they should be using the same network addresses for maximum interoperability and network simplicity … such as for home audio etc. almost certainly they will be.
10.x.x.x (class a) can be used for very large networks … but nothing stopping it being used for small home networks … possibly with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 for a small home network, giving you a small range of 254 addresses. (The size of a network, or technically a sub network, is determined by its subnet mask) Typically for small upto 254 address home networks class C networks are used which are 192.168.x.x with a network mask of 255.255.255.0 or less.
