Much as I love the selection available and the high-quality streaming I get very frustrated when I want to listen to a particular piece of classical music as it seems Qobuz won’t display the information I need.
As an example.
Beethoven Complete String Quartets by Quartetto Italiano which comprises 71 tracks
I would like to listen to the String Quartet No. 6 in B flat, Op. 18 No. 6 - but there’s no way to find it as far as I can see.
I can see this - but I’ve no idea which String Quartet this relates to
I do n’t listen to classical music very much, but from what I understand, meta data for classical music is often an issue. You could trial Tidal and/or Spotify to see if it is any better.
Thanks - I’m using Android and the info is not displayed.
If I use my PC then the info is displayed.
So the metadata is there, but not displayed on my Android mobile.
Are you’re using the Qobuz app and playing on your Atom using Connect? If not, I think that is the way to go. It certainly works for me on my iPhone. If you are using Connect then how the Qobuz app works on Android must be different to IoS and I guess you have to hope an update sovles the problem.
Then the issue is with the two versions of the Qobuz app. You might try asking Qobuz if they could align the Android app with the Ios version. Best of luck as they’re not exactly massively responsive.
As for Qobuz users getting a bum deal I think that’s true for most streaming services, except those dedicated to classical such as Idagio and Presto, but these are not integrated into Naim streamers and may have usability or SQ compromises.
Its not just cloud streaming either. One reason MinimServer is my preferred music server for locally stored files is that it handles this issue really well. I have a set of all the Beethoven piano sonatas. Just two taps allows me to choose a sonata and get just that piece playing. Making sure the metadata is right is critical, but once done it’s a pleasure to use.
I don’t use any as I don’t stream online, but my understanding is that Qubuz has a much better collection of classical than at least Tidal, and IIRC consistently has been said to be better sounding.
On my iPhone using the Qobuz Connect app, when I first select the album the track info includes the disc number and Quartet number, but not when I’m looking at the play queue.
The information is available when using the Naim app.
Yes - the Naim app does show the name of the music being played but the Qobuz Connect app is a superior interface.
I just find it really weird that Qobuz don’t include the name of the piece in their app for Android.
I can run the apps concurrently, so I can find out what I’m listening to on the Naim app and use Q-Connect for streaming.
As Fatcat shows, you can use the initial screen and scroll down to see what’s playing and the full name is shown. Seems to be the only way. The Naim app is much better in this regard and there is no problem identifying the piece being played
This drives me nuts too. My main gripe is that when there is more than one composer on a CD, I have no idea which track relates to what composer. I believe the issue is down to the record companies, as that is the way they make their music files available to Qobus etc. They still expect us to have the booklet that comes with the CD. I have written to Presto classical and had a reply to say they would feed back to the companies, but I don’t see it changing any time soon.
The information about the composer (and a lot more) is there, but the Name of the piece being played is not displayed on an Android device.
If you use a PC or IOS then that info is displayed, so the info is there.
When the track is playing, if you swipe up you’ll see more info including the composer -
My gripe is that the Name of the music being played is not displayed.
As in the example above, I know it’s the 4th movement of something written by Beethoven - but that’s all - the name of the piece isn’t displayed.
To get around it I use Qobuz Connect for streaming and if I want to see what I’m listening to I have to run the Naim App which does display both Composer and the name of the piece being played.
I’m not sure it’s an issue with android, I think it’s just that Qobuz are just not displaying the info that is there.
I did raise it with Qobuz support months ago but didn’t get a reply.
