Now Qobuz connect is available I compared the sound quality to using Qobuz through the Naim app.
To my ears the sound using the existing Qobuz integration by Naim through the Naim app sounds better (More 3d is maybe the best way to describe it) than using Qobuz connect.
Try e.g. Open Qobuz
I wonder if other people share this experience?
I definitely think that Naim app sounds better than Qobuz Connect. It’s now a few weeks since I last used Qobuz Connect. I need to do it again, now that my new NAP 350 are beginning to settle.
From what I remember the “Connect sound” was impressive in the beginning. It is a little more intense. It is a little more forward. At first: “Yes, I like this. This is fun”. But then - “hm, it sounds a little less clear. A little less detail. A little less separation between instruments. A little less air”. Easily noticeable in a number of tracks that I like to listen to. It’s as if everything takes more effort to present to you whereas the Naim app sounds less forced. It sounds as if it is an easier job for the streamer to present the music. More air. More relaxed. And definitely, on a number of tracks with acoustic string instuments (guitars, salterio, …), the upper frequencies seem to be a little pushed back. That makes the instruments sound more “impressive” but less like real instruments.
That’s how I remember it. But I will make a new “try” next week and see what I think about it then.
