Qobuz via the Naim App limited functionality

Hi does anyone have the same inferior experience as me when streaming Qobuz via the Naim App?I have always found the functionality far lower listening this way compared to using Qobuz directly (e.g no recently played options or latest artist recordings being shown) and then sending it to my Nova via Airplay or Chromecast. However recently I have found it worse than ever. I can still create a play queue and add music to a playlist but the ‘see album’ and ‘see artist’ options are inoperative. I persist with Qobuz via the Naim App because the sound quality seems so much better than Airplay or Chromecast but the limitations are frustrating.

i find it a bit swings and roundabouts - hopefully qobuz connect will arrive at some point - i use naim app to play music but qobuz app for anything else

I’d imagine they simply use an API provided by Qobuz to offer the features in the Naim app - the question I suppose is whether or not there are additional features that API could offer but are not enabled currently (perhaps for good reasons).

I think the Qobuz app has changed recently too from reading the updates so I’ve stuck with a slightly older version.

Might also be (logically) that Qobuz want you to use their app primarily and potentially make it more feature rich for that reason.

Might also be that if Qobuz have revamped their app there could potentially be a newer API for Naim to use which did not get into the last firmware update but is planned for a future one.

We also all differ in the way we use these services, I’m pretty much happy to be able to search my purchases (many of which now won’t play from that list if the title has been removed from Qobuz) or more generally through a simple search as personally I don’t use playlists or recently played much though appreciate others might.

I think this is exactly the point. Streaming services develop all the time. They have to. And Naim isn’t very much up to par with implementation of latest functionality of any streaming service. It took them a long time to update Tidal to hi res, and they are running further and further behind with Qobuz as well. As far as my understanding goes, they are not very proactive on this part either, saying they are waiting for Qobuz to provide them with technical info on Qobuz Connect for example. Whilst Qobuz has asked every vendor to reach out for the Connect feature to be implemented and tested.

All I can say is that a reactive attitude like this usually means that you are bound to miss some trains that have already left or are on the verge of leaving the station.
Naim seems to think that Qobuz needs them more than that they need Qobuz. And I think that some Naim customers may switch to Tidal before they ditch Naim. So that doesn’t hurt indeed.
Problem is more with interested buyers who are looking for new equipment. If other high end competitors offer good integration withTidal as well as Qobuz, then I think in the end Naim will be losing customers and market share.

Who are they running behind? I have streamers by Auralic and Linn in other systems knocking around the house and couldn’t say I find them functionally superior to the Naim implementation.

As for Qobuz Connect, I hadn’t realised it had got beyond the beta stage and a video. But if you have more up-do-date information about Connect, please do share.

I think it’s still bèta where it comes to Connect although rumour has it that it will be released this month.
What I meant was that all features that Qobuz has brought to the app are nowhere to be found in the Naim App and that representatives from Qobuz have stated that they had reached out to the market to work with them and test Qobuz Connect.
Here on the forum someone placed a reaction that Naim stated that they were waiting for Qobuz to come up with specific technical requirements.
Those two statements contradict a little. So who is doing the right thing here?
I know that Audirvãna also has the experience that them reaching out did not make for a reaction from Naim. I once reached out to Naim as well, and got nothing.
So to me it seems that the people at Naim are seemingly the ones that are running behind the facts.

Thanks for all responses. I hadn’t realised that Qobuz integrated within the Nova was an option until a few months after I’d started subscribing. Initially I used the Qobuz app on an iPad connected via a Dragonfly to a RCA input. It’s strange that the level of functionality should reduce via the Naim App when you’d expect it to improve over time. I have noticed that you can see ‘New Releases’ listed by many artists but when you search by a specific artist you generally don’t see their latest release. I also spotted this anomaly when I tried to add a track to a Qobuz playlist. I don’t have a Tidal subscription. Strange.

IIRC this issue of functionality has already been covered on previous threads. A search will no doubt bring forth some previous posts.
There was I think, an issue about what level of info et al Qobuz allowed in third party apps.
Using both Tidal and Qobuz, I consider the Qobuz integration slightly ahead. I do though use all three apps - this on an iPad.
Worth mentioning, when peps post an issue with the “app”, so often there is scant detail of, which one, on what control device. The iOS app imho, i]with more than one streamer, is fast and reliable, regardless of the source, being iRadio, Tidal, Qobuz, US (SSD) or Core from an ageing NAS.
