In my case the new earthing rod cost something in the region of Euro200 if I recall well, so as you say, not a major expense. I also have a PV system and 10kva battery which normally keeps me off grid for all or most of the day and night (this is Malta don’t forget, it is usually sunny!), so my live phase is usually quite independent from any other consumer. I expect this to be a positive thing, but I don’t know enough to be certain!
Thanks @Dan_M . Actually with relatively little work I am able to use existing in wall conduit to pass wires to my den from an independent unused MCB on the existing CU, and I can also install an external cable to my den from a new CU.
So what I currently have in mind is to do both, using the existing MCB feed to power the speakers and turntable/phono stage, and the new CU/external cable for just the 222 (and any possible future Naim kit).
(Alternatively, unless it is more beneficial to keep any switched mode PSUs totally away from the Naim, I can possibly reroute the wiring from the existing unused MCB to a second MCB on the new CU, and have all the system on the new dedicated CU)
At least this is the plan until now
I would start with the basics. I’m not familiar with ring mains in the UK (from Oz).
One Circuit from the new CU supplies a power board with a star earth for all your NAIM equipment. If there are enough outlets in the power board, connect all your equipment to it. If not obtain a second start earthed powerboard and daisy chain that to the first. All are from one outlet, which is a non-switched power outlet.
Connect the active speakers via a start-earthed power board to the second outlet on the unswitched powerpoint.
Use shielded IEC power leads for all equipment. Expensive, yes. That is what I have done for my XS system, and it works magnificently.
