  1. Should the Snaic be locked or let loose like signal cables?

  2. Should the earthing lead leave far from the Snaic, or go as close as possible?

    set at Chassis.

I locked the SNAIC due to it providing power to the prefix. For the earth, I connected it to the pre-amp (52) and just left it dangling ensuring no contact with anything. I expect you’ll get other advice but was very happy with the Prefix Supercapped thru a 52/135.

Power SNAICs need to be locked to prevent possibly power loss and potential resulting damage.

Snaic’s sound better without the collar locked,but
you should of course not pull them out ,when the equipment is on.

Thanks Igel, but without locking the sound lost some bodies and low end. I’m hoping to see what everyone thinks and the best alternative solution.

I’ve got a Naim cd player so the tonearm earthing lead shouldn’t be connect to the preamp?

With locked snaic+connected tonearm lead the sound virtually all pushing upfront.

I would try again ,I’ve not heard of anyone who prefer the Din collar locked.

I could not tell the difference, tried it on my old CB kit and my 52,

Also On a daily basis I use a duster and clean the back of my kit, now I’ve got fans in the back of my amps, I like to keep everything dust free,

It’s the same with muting the phono stage, can’t hear any difference

I mean pressing the red mute button, heard somewhere that it’s meant to be an improvement

IIRC, engaging the mute button on the lower ‘record’ bank of buttons powers down the tape buffer circuitry.

This results in a little less current draw on the internal power rails, with a possible improvement in SQ.

I see ,you mean Mute the Record section ,press the red Mute and the Aux ,so you mute the whole record section ,not just the Phono.

Yes it’s also an official Naim tweak that makes a difference .

That’s it, I can’t tell the difference on the phono input or the aux, or any of the record section, did a blind test (literally) with a m8, he could tell no difference also,

I tend to lock SNAICs as the risk of an accidental disconnection is fairly high otherwise, and that can cause speaker damage. I even locked the connector on the Prefix. As for interconnects, always with the collars wound back unlocked.
